On October 10th, Gisselle & I summited Vagabond Peak in the Eastern Sierra! ✨🏔️🌞

We started the morning in the dark after eating some leftover fried rice and cold instant coffee, hitting the trail at 6 AM with headlamps on and fresh legs. As the sun came up, we made our way past some absolutely gorgeous alpine lakes, including Brown Lake and Green Lake, before heading higher into the rugged granite landscape with a population of 3 or 4 jackrabbits 🐰

This hike was seriously STUNNING. Between the alpine lakes, endless mountain views, and scrambling our way to the summit, the Eastern Sierra really knows how to show off!

And here’s a funny little story about how I met Gisselle. 😂 We actually met because I sold her a sleeping pad on Facebook Marketplace! Apparently, selling used backpacking gear is also a great way to make new hiking friends. Who knew a sleeping pad transaction would eventually lead to us climbing a 13,000-foot mountain together?! 😂🏔️

We originally had Cloudripper in mind too, but Vagabond Peak ended up being our summit for the day as there was a big storm forecasted for later that day and clouds had started to roll in. No complaints here because the views were incredible!

It’s getting a bit chilly out here. 🥶

Yup, we’re firing up the heaters, stocking up firewood, and officially feeling winter in the air.

And so is the El Niño hype machine.

We want nothing more than a killer winter here. Deep snow, endless powder days, and a season that delivers but before we start calling it the winter of the century, let’s take a look at the history.

P.S. We’re stoked to be making content all winter long with the homies @yourmammothagent and, of course, the Eastside’s official weatherman, Noé at @eastsideweather. Pray for snow 🤘🏼❄️

Fall is here in the Sierra! details below 👇🍂

Many of the creeks and lakes in Mono County have already begun to erupt into brilliant shades of yellow and orange. If you're in the Mammoth area, go out and explore anywhere you can, I'm certain you'll strike gold as long as you don't wait too long! The leaves are changing quite fast, and each day the afternoon winds strip more trees of their leaves. Ideally, I'd go as soon as you can while conditions last!

Don't fret though, many areas are still patchy with lots of green that have yet to start showing color. If you are coming in a week's time or later, there's still plenty of areas that have just barely begun to turn.

As always, follow along for more updates, I got another couple days out here and will share what I find! Happy leaf hunting 🤙🍂🍁

Current conditions in the Sierra. More info below 👇

Fall is in full swing here in the Eastern Sierra in certain parts of Inyo and Mono counties, blink and you'll miss it! Much of the higher elevation lakes and valleys (above 8-9000ft) around Bishop are already peaking or will soon, and the colors are going to turn quite fast. Some groves are still patchy/green and have a bit more time before they peak, but wind is already stripping some aspens of their leaves, so don't wait too long. If you plan on visiting these areas visit ASAP!

If you're coming later, head to lower elevations (6-7000ft) in the area to have a better chance of seeing the golden aspens!
