Your toothbrush might be leaving more behind than you think 🪥

Researchers found that plastic toothbrushes can shed millions of tiny plastic particles through everyday brushing - and most are too small to see.

While the health implications are still being studied, these particles can enter wastewater and the wider environment.

NZ banned plastic microbeads in toothpaste in 2018. Yet most toothbrushes still use nylon bristles - even many bamboo ones.

We thought it was time for another way to brush.

Meet EQUIL’s Horse Bristle & Bamboo Toothbrush.

✓ Real horsehair bristles
✓ Natural bamboo handle
✓ No nylon. No plastic.
✓ 4 brushes for $42.90

A small change to your daily ritual. One less source of plastic.

Twice a day. Every day.

It’s probably one of the most repeated rituals of your life.

But have you ever stopped to think about what your toothbrush is actually made from?

We did. And it sent us down a rabbit hole.

Tomorrow, we’re sharing what came out the other side.

One small swap.
Twice a day.
Every day.

Mangaroa Farms recently featured in Issue 11 of @ontheland_mag in an eight-page spread about the farm and the question it keeps asking: what does the land want to be?

The article covers the 1,200 acre project holding a market garden and orchard, a farm shop, a sheep and beef operation, local events, and 700 acres of pine in transition back to native forest.

On The Land looks at the people on the ground at @mangaroafarms, from the farmers who are restoring soil through adaptive grazing, to the team simultaneously opening an on-site butchery to serve the local community - to the market gardeners to the shop keepers, and the storytellers & events team - who can all trace their relationship with the project back to the soil.

For Mangaroa Farms, the measure of success is simple: if the Mangaroa river is healthy, the team knows they are doing a good job.

Issue 12 features:
- Tara Benedict's @wildwood_farm regenerative pick-your-own flower farm in Taupō on the cover,
- @kiwihomesteaders - a Bay of Plenty couple teaching traditional craft alongside te ao Māori
- Growing and cooking perennial food forest vegetables with @permadynamics
- Forage bush kai with @sam_the_trap_man (an extract from his new book)
- Processing roosters with @gillian.swinton
- Growing brambles with @thefoodfarmnz
- Crafting a hunting bow with @threycameronarchery
- Making liquid feed with @edible.backyard

From December @ontheland_mag becomes a quarterly seasonal journal.

Six years ago, the first kindling of the BROS fire was lit.

Back then - it was known as the "OM Brotherhood", and the flagship event pictured in March 2020 brought together 88 men for 3 hours of breathwork, yoga, men's circle and kai.

Weeks after - global lockdowns stopping us from gathering in person, so we created the space online.

That same year, a rugby team sized group of men, showing up for a couple of hours online to listen, share, and hold a willingness to be honest about how life was actually going.

We had no idea if it would last past the first month. Since then - the "OM Brotherhood" evolved into @bros.nz - with full moon fires, festival workshops at the likes of @revivefestivalnz @splorefestival @earthbeatfestival NZ Spirit @sauna_fest and more.

Youth immersions. Leadership trainings. Monthly Local Fires now burning in towns across Aotearoa.

33 men on the land at @mangaroafarms each April for the Masculine Vitality Experience.

And through all of it, running every month for the last 2 years at Whiro / new moon, the online circle.

Consistency - the benefits and community have compounded, from turning up. Again. And again.

Some nights 30 men. Some nights 10. We ran it anyway.

Six years of that adds up to hundreds, if not thousands of men who have sat in these circles or come to a BROS workshop and found out they weren't the only one carrying the weight.

Next circle - tomorrow Tuesday 8 Sep, 7-9pm on Zoom.

Join free, or leave a koha.

10 years in the booch industry taught me one thing: most "kombucha" on the supermarket shelf isn't really kombucha.

Real booch is alive - it needs to stay cold to stay that way. Shelf-stable at room temp usually means pasteurised, artificially sweetened, and likely never “living" in the first place.

Swipe through for the full story from @theorganicmc days ➝ and why it's exactly why we built @getequil.
