Tenth anniversary of Ecotrail Stockholm and the last chance to run the 80 km distance. I didn't want to miss that chance, so despite my miserable form during Uka Pain three weeks earlier, I set my alarm for 04:00.😱

The weather was cooler than last year's heat wave. Despite this, I was more uncertain about how it would go this year. During Uka Pain, I had completely lost energy, had pain in my leg and ran with crutches - sorry, I mean trekking poles, for larger parts of the race. The poles were brought to Ecotrail, a race that I would usually never dream of using poles for.

The starting signal sounded at 07.00 and we were off. The pain fluctuated in my leg. Sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less, but never unbearable. I was able to keep a decent pace for the first 20 km. Soon I reached Väsjöbacken. That was the only time I used my poles. Not because I needed to use them, more because it felt stupid not to use them on the highest hill of the race.

The tap after 40 km marked the half of the race. Since it was the fourth time I ran the race, I started to get to know the course. After the tap it's Granholmstoppen, a turn to Ursvik with its lovely hills. Then it was finally time for Hagakullen, here I feel just like home, through Hagaparken, along Brunnsviken, over the main road and then Norra Djurgården where you pass the finish area before setting off on the last 8 km, including both Ugglebacken and Mördarbacken. I tried to push as hard as I could. Just the final sprint into the headwind, up over the last hill and then down to the finish line!

I beat last year's time by two minutes and considering how the last six months training have been, I can be okay with that. My hip and leg ached, but not as bad as during Uka Pain, and my energy was back. Placement largely depends on who participates, but it's always fun to get on the podium. But I was disappointed when I opened the bag I received as a prize. In addition to the obligatory tubes and water bottles, I also received weight loss products! Come on @Ecotrailstockholmswe, it's 2026 now!
