We kicked off Day 3 of the Reading for Pleasure Caravan Conference 2026 on a strong note at the UAE’s oldest university, United Arab Emirates University, with a keynote from His Excellency Zaki Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to the President of the UAE and Chancellor of United Arab Emirates University.

We then welcomed His Excellency Dr Sultan Al Neyadi, Astronaut and UAE Minister of State for Youth Affairs, who returned to his hometown for a lively conversation exploring his journey from books to space — and the role reading has played along the way.

230 children, one auditorium - and Billy Bear bringing us together! 🐻📚✨

What an energetic visit to @diyaracademyfujairah Diyar Private Academy Boys Dibba! Year 2 and 3 joined me for an engaging storytelling session with Billy Bear’s Brown Hair, exploring self-love, kindness and what it means to be a true friend.

The auditorium buzzed with excitement, thoughtful ideas and imaginative conversations. Through Connect–Share–Imagine, we connected Billy’s story to our own feelings and experiences.

My favourite part? Hearing children’s thoughts as the story unfolded. That’s where the magic happens!

Thank you to the children and school team for such a warm welcome.

When you walk into the school library at @diadubai and discover that the super librarian, @desislavadare, is the winner of the Librarian of the Year Award @elfdubai… and then you spot YOUR books on the shelves!

Even better? You’re told that the wonderful students have most of them checked out and are reading them!

As an author, that is EVERYTHING you could wish to hear! ❤️❤️

As you walk out, you notice a board celebrating the amazing authors who have visited the school over the years. What a wonderful reminder of the power of bringing authors and young readers together!

School author visits matter.

They bring books to life, open up conversations about themes and characters, ignite curiosity, inspire creativity, and expand young minds and horizons.

When students get the chance to meet the person behind the story, books become more than words on a page. They become experiences, connections, and possibilities.

And when those books are borrowed, read, shared, and loved? That’s the magic of being an author!

Thank you librarians and schools for all you do for the love of books and reading!

DM for school visit details!

6 years, 4 books, 2 languages, and endless possibilities!
