🌿✨Creating Art for Outdoor Spaces✨🌿

Over the summer, we partnered with Myers Park Library to host Creating Art for Outdoor Spaces, a workshop about transforming gardens and patios into whimsical outdoor oases!

@ellafaeart shared her experience using upcycled materials and elements from nature to bring creativity and personality into outdoor spaces. Together, we explored where to find inspiration, how to source materials, layout and design ideas, and the art of whimsy!

The response was so wonderful that another workshop was held to give even more people the opportunity to join us.

To everyone who participated, thank you so much for coming and sharing your creativity with us! We hope your outdoor makeovers are going wonderfully and that you’re having fun bringing a little more whimsy into your spaces.

Three ArtWalks. Three different routes. Three artists and one historian. And 75 attendees! What a weekend.

Many thanks to the Sun City Hiking Club and Sustain Charlotte for inviting us to ArtWalk with them and to our artists @elizamakescoolart (twice), @rebeccalippsart, and historian John Short.

We had a great time!

Last week, 30 artists and makers took their first step toward our November 8 market (mark your calendars!).

Guided by six seasoned vendors (our Market Mentors) and the business know-how of some amazing teaching artists, 24 artists and makers will be selling their work publicly for the very first time.

Teaching artist and gastro-impressionist, Eliza Dunaway, delivered a priceless practicum on pricing handmade products.

Participants practiced designing eye-catching product displays and built model booths using collage materials and up-cycled fixtures.

Market Mentors shared battle-tested wisdom with their cohorts. Advice on layouts, flow, levels, and signage abound!

Teaching artists ellafae and Brianna Daniels critiqued each booth set-up and provided feedback.

First-Timers were able to take home display fixtures to use in booths.

P.S. Look at that beautiful beadwork by First-Timer, @lydiastanfield.art

Keep an eye out for more First-Timer’s Market Program updates — including info about the Nov. 8 market, artist profiles, product previews, and more!

Our “The Hand Project” is moving closer to its final completion.

Over the past few weeks, many beautiful backboards have been submitted. Thank you so much to all the participants for doing such an amazing job.

The Hand Project is still ongoing. I cannot wait to share the full collection of all the completed pieces together at the exhibition.

Please join us for our first show opening reception on Thursday evening, September 24th at LoSo Studio.

* Dear participants,
I will send out an email with details about the exhibition schedule and the book publication soon. Please keep an eye on your email inbox.

Thank you to all the artists who walked with us or created with us during the first half of the year!

Note the coats we were all wearing back in February…would love a blast of cold air right now :)

Stay tuned for our next couple of events in July and a packed fall schedule!

❤️ Many of our favorite pieces of public art in the city are the ones made with community participation. There’s an undeniable magic embedded deep within them.

The love, joy, and creativity poured into a new series of pavement and sidewalk murals in Plaza Midwood is clearly palpable. That’s largely thanks to a community engagement process led by artist @ellafaeart.

EllaFae is an award-winning mixed-media installation and fiber artist living and working in Charlotte, NC. She was voted “Best Visual Artist” in the QC Nerve 2020, 2022, and 2025 Best in the Nest Awards.

💫Her community work taps into the power of art, mindfulness, and experiential learning. She encourages self-reflection and the opening of the mind through the creation of meaningful art.

It’s such a privilege to see residents get involved and become artists right before our eyes. Thanks to EllaFae and @megannits for these images.

It was December 29, 2022, when the first idea of The Hands Project began to take shape. Now, standing at the end of April 2026, I look back and see how much this project has grown alongside me.

What started as a small, quiet step has now become a collection of 90 hand castings. To reach this number, there were so many moments behind the scenes. From the polite noes to the welcoming yeses, and even the bittersweet goodbyes of those who had to leave the project, I realized I have shared more emails and texts than I ever could have imagined in my ordinary routine.

I truly treasure every person I met through this journey. I love the stories behind their hands and the lives they have built with them. My heart especially warms when they visit me with their completed backboards, or even when they reach out with a simple question or request. It makes me realize how much I care about this community.

To all the hands that have worked so hard to complete this project, and to those who are still thoughtfully working on their pieces, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love you all. #Please know that I am always here, waiting for your completed boards and your email replies with a happy heart.

We had the absolute honor of being part of and present for the marriage of @dac_from_rgv and @gibsinthekitchen this weekend. ❤️

David and Gibson, our wish for you is that you build a life together as beautiful as the two of you are, inside and out.

JUST ADDED! A new series of ten sidewalk and street murals, and a median sculpture have appeared in Plaza Midwood. “Joy in the Shadows” was created by artist @ellafaeart in collaboration with the community. Through several workshops, neighbors collected shadows to be preserved in paint. ☀️

This series encourages those strolling by to be present and notice the sweet details.

This artwork was funded through a @cltgov @clturbandesign Placemaking Grant with @plaza_midwood.
