Today we’re celebrating all the things we love about op shopping — unexpected treasures, bargain finds, unique pieces, second chances and shopping a little more intentionally.

Sydney Road Thrift Mission #1: Thrift an outfit for under $30.

Angela will be bringing us 5 thrift missions, taking on the first mission on World Op Shop Day, 17 October! She’ll be taking along the Sydney Road Brunswick precinct’s recently updated Secondhand and Vintage Guide to navigate Sydney Road’s famous Op Shopping Trail. Kicking things off with an espresso at Pulcinella and their famous Sfogliatella Classica (10/10, no notes), because every good thrift mission needs fuel.

Then it’s off to the Epilepsy Foundation Op Shop for the sale section, elite vintage and a playful greeting from Camille the dog.

💬 “Why couldn’t it be one of us? We’d take that suffering away in a heartbeat.”

For Ballarat mum and Epilepsy Foundation Nurse/Educator, Gretel Johns, seeing her daughter experience a tonic-clonic seizure was a moment she’ll never forget.

Despite having years of nursing experience, Gretel says she knew relatively little about epilepsy before her daughter’s diagnosis. Her daughter was eventually diagnosed with sunflower syndrome, a rare form of photosensitive epilepsy.

Her story is a reminder that epilepsy can affect anyone - and that understanding, awareness and access to the right support can make a real difference.

That’s why having epilepsy support closer to home matters.

Our new Ballarat Op Shop in Wendouree is more than a place to find your next great thrift. It’s also a place to connect with the Epilepsy Foundation, learn more about epilepsy and help raise funds for our free support services.

Because every op shop purchase helps us provide support, information and services to people living with epilepsy and their families - wherever they live.

The @epilepsyfoundationaus op-shop has now opened in Wendouree! 🛍️💜
Of course I matched my outfit 😉

As someone who has been diagnosed with epilepsy, it’s amazing to see this now here in Ballarat. A percentage of profits go directly to Epilepsy Foundation, who do such incredible things, including the search for a cure. With a seeding investment of $2 million from the Australian Government, they have established the Australian Epilepsy Research Fund. This provides Australians living with epilepsy hope for a cure through research.

They are now taking donations, so please drop in your unwanted clothing, adults, children’s and babies.
Shoes, bags, books, toys, etc.

Come in and check it out 💜

📍Seddon’s Epilepsy Foundation Op Shop surprised me! It looks small from the outside, but it’s actually has another level ?? The prices were a little higher than I’d usually expect, but there’s definitely plenty to browse if you’re in the area. 💜
