@fp.minnesota has made some big upgrades this year. Expanded space, new @fpinnovations technology, and a growing community of top-notch practitioners and clients pumping out results.

If you’re in the Twin Cities area, send them a message and get plugged in to one of their many offerings. I started as a client at this facility in 2018 and haven’t looked back since.

Special thanks to @frida.paris.douglass for the investments she continues to make to build this community. It’s good to see she is no longer alone in her efforts, but she has been the Minnesota catalyst from day-one and for that we are very grateful.

Using the @rg_bar_ at @fp_whitebearlake to get my body connected and ready for work on the Land!

Most people think of strength training as moving weight up and down, primarily through the sagittal plane. But real life demands so much more.

Swinging an axe, using a pitchfork, lifting and carrying materials all require us to manage forces across multiple planes of motion.

Learning how to anchor and integrate the arms with the rest of the body, while moving through different vectors of force, is what makes training transferable to the demands of everyday life.

The goal isn’t just to get stronger in the gym. It’s to build a body that can efficiently interact with its environment. @fp.minnesota

“I would feel good for a little bit, but the underlying issue was still always there.”

That’s Nicole on two and a half years of low back pain. Every morning. On bad days it would spasm up to a 10 and put her on the ground for a couple of days.

As someone in the fitness and wellness space herself, she tried everything. Chiro, PTs, regular massage, every style of training. Each one helped for a bit. But a lot of what’s out there is built to calm pain down, and for her, even that relief kept wearing off. The problem underneath stayed where it was.

At her first assessment we filmed her standing, walking, and running in slow motion. That showed us the mechanical leaks contributing to her pain, and a lot of her morning tension came from standing and walking.

In 25 sessions over 3 months, her pain went to 0/10 on most days. She’s back on the tennis court now, and still training, because pain-free was never the finish line.

If your back is worst first thing in the morning, the fix might not be another stretch. It might be time to look at how you’re holding yourself and moving through life.

What does your back feel like in the first ten minutes after you get up?

You can have plenty of muscle, strength, and discipline and still be building on top of dysfunctional movement.

Tyler was an ex-collegiate wrestler who continued lifting and staying in great shape, but over time he started experiencing more pain, tightness, and restrictions. The solution wasn’t giving up strength training — it was learning how to use strength training to correct the problem instead of compounding it.

For the past couple years, we’ve been working on exactly that together, using @functionalpatterns to improve his movement, decompress his structure, and change the way he loads his body so he can continue getting stronger without constantly reinforcing the same imbalances.

If you’re someone who already trains but your body is starting to feel worse instead of better, this is exactly the type of problem we help people solve.

You don’t need to stop training. You need to learn how to train your body better.

If this sounds like you, DM me “FP” and let’s get started…

Strength training shouldn’t make you more compressed.

Everyone is already stuck in certain positions and movement patterns from the way they sit, stand, walk, train, and live.

If you strength train without addressing those patterns, you can end up getting stronger within the same positions you’re already stuck in.

Functional Patterns teaches you the priority variables needed to start undoing those patterns.

Once you understand those variables, you can use strength training differently — building muscle while teaching your body to decompress, stabilize, and move more efficiently.

You don’t need to stop lifting weights.

You need to learn how to make your strength work for your movement instead of against it.

If you want to learn how to strength train while improving your movement, DM me “MOVE” and I’ll show you how I can help.
