🎞 Florida’s Strangest Stories Are Becoming Cinema 🎥 @lastdaysofkoreshan @fried.works

🎬 There are the neon nights, the roadside oddities, the forgotten towns and the characters who seem too strange to have been invented. But tucked away in Southwest Florida is a religious community, a charismatic prophet, a hollow Earth and a group of believers waiting for their leader to come back from the dead 📸

Science and Faith were two ideas that Koresh (Cyrus Teed) sought to join in his movement.
Although in his death, we see the struggle that it actually was. While there were many doctors
(of eclectic medicine) within the Koreshan Unity, this County Doctor, played by Robert D. Nation (@behindthescenestheatricalsllc),
is an outsider to both the community and the faith, challenging everything that Master Koresh had prophesied.

One of my favorite casting stories is in regards to trying to find my Dr. Weimar, played by @geoff.freitag . I traversed German American Clubs and wandered up and down Wilton Drive looking for the perfect Doctor. By mere kismet, I happened to ask someone who pointed me to Marc Martorana who is a staple in the Wilton Manors scene, and he connected me with Geoff. Geoff not only had the look but also the ability to play the spiritually zealous Dr. Weimar. He approached his character discovery with such curiosity and nuance, and it translates beautifully on screen. See the first look: September 18 (link in bio)

Every fear, concern, ounce of joy can be expressed not only with words but with the look on one’s face. Jennie, played by @cookie_colletti , exemplifies this to a T in her interpretation of Jennie. While reluctant at first over Cyrus Teed’s beliefs, she remained loyal to her husband Dr. Abie Andrews and followed Teed to Chicago. Eventually Jennie became a believer in Teed and was known as a member of the Planetary Court and the Secretary for the community.

It’s been a wild year

I had the opportunity to direct and design more than I ever have. Half the time, I was throwing pasta at the wall and seeing what stuck. I’m grateful for the people and companies that took a chance on me!

Gigging while also doing my PhD and teaching at two universities was A LOT, but I’m grateful for every opportunity that came my way and every collaboration. Let’s do it again 💪🏻
