Presented during Melbourne Design Week 2026, Tra Noi formed part of 100 CHAIRS, an exhibition by Friends & Associates at Abbotsford Convent. Bringing together more than 100 Australian designers, architects and makers, the exhibition celebrated the chair as a medium for experimentation, craftsmanship and contemporary design thinking. Designed by Iva Foschia in collaboration with Arthur G, Tra Noi explores the chair as an object of connection, translating ideas of family into a contemporary furniture piece.

100 CHAIRS
Presented by Friends & Associates
14/05/2026-24/05/2026

100 CHAIRS was an exhibit held in the South Magdalen Laundry at Abbotsford Convent as part of Melbourne Design Week (2026). This exhibit featured 100 CHAIRS from over 100 Australian creatives exploring the chair beyond just an object, exploring both concept and function. All chairs were designed and made in Australia. This exhibit provided great insight through its exploration of construction methods, materials, and conceptualisations of how a chair might inhabit a space, and how the chair is used. This exhibit in its storytelling, expressive outcomes and creativity has left me truly inspired.

As a society why we are all inherently fascinated by and drawn to inanimate everyday/objects which we interact with?

The 100 Chairs Exhibition was an outstanding set up by @friends.associates for @ngvmelbourne’s Melbourne Design week and proof that the humble chair holds a lot of space in our lives.

Upholstered in our locally made Chunky wool LIFE Textile, LAYUP is a groundbreaking collaboration between @skeehanstudio + @composite.sydney that explores a local, iterative + circular approach to furniture production.

Previewed at Melbourne Design Week, the piece is fabricated in Sydney using robotic 3D printing with 100% recycled PETG, reflecting the same principles of local production + material stewardship that inform our wool textile collections.

LAYUP investigates this new manufacturing system that can allow furniture to be rapidly adapted, reclaimed + reproduced without traditional tooling or offshore production.

ODD Design Studies at Melbourne Design Week

A highlight from 100 Chairs at Melbourne Design Week was the repeated use of stainless steel. From polished and mirrored finishes to brushed and folded forms. Designers explored the material in unique ways, showing its versatility through thoughtful detailing and craftsmanship.
