Meet Jes Young, a Toronto-based ceramicist and moldmaker turning the leftovers of city life into playful porcelain sculptures. 🐦 Jes is the recipient of the Gallery 1065 Award for Distinguished Achievement in the Advancement of Joy & Whimsy ($1,650) at TOAF65! From urban pests to discarded treasures, Jes finds beauty in the forgotten, celebrating the resilience of artists with a dose of humour and whimsy. 🐀✨ First participating as part of Art Nest in 2024, Jes's booth this year was designed as a living room that invited visitors to lounge around, dig through “trash,” hang out with pigeons, and leave with cigarette butts in their pockets. What kind of trash do you want as a part of your collection? Check out Jes's whimsical work at TOAF.ca.

It’s impossible to describe all the amazingness of Rewilding Toronto in a single post. This three-week exhibition was so much more than a show. From the opening celebrations and ink-making workshops to the continuous painting, it was a year in the making. Jode Roberts and Jason Logan, I’m beyond grateful for your talent, kindness, and encouragement. At every meeting where we conspired, I kept thinking how lucky I was to be included. Now I understand what’s possible when you work with a team whose wild imaginations aren’t limited by what’s been done before. A project this big takes so much behind-the-scenes work, persistence, and attention to detail. From countless meetings, getting the coolest gallery willing to let you paint on every wall, and having the David Suzuki Foundation support it all. It really takes a village and a little bit of wild magic. There’s so much more to share and this project deserves several more posts. For now, I’ll start with the black inky lines. A summer spent designing them, followed by seven days painting them, using just one brush. 🖤🌿 📸 Lovely photography captured by @tanjatiziana (with a few more snapshots by Jode and me).

A little dream is now part of a big city 🏙️ I’m delighted to share that two of my original Organica watercolours were selected from over 100 artists for Brampton BOXED 2026! I created the final, print-ready composition in @photoshop , and seeing my artwork come to life on this traffic signal box outside Brampton Civic Hospital is truly something else. The colours, the scale, the sheer joy of it all! Organica was born while I was caring for my mom after her knee surgery. I painted with a wish for hope, movement and joy during a time when we needed all three. To see these works now brighten a public space outside one of Canada’s biggest hospitals, feels especially meaningful. I’m incredibly grateful to @citybrampton for this opportunity. My heart is full❤️ If you’re in Brampton, stop by and take a look! Art is for everybody ✌️ @baobrampton #publicarts #trafficboxart #tarunasinghart

What happens when you invite a group of strangers to paint an entire art gallery using inks made from plants, berries and other things found around the neighbourhood? 🌿🎨 More than 180 Torontonians joined us at @gallery.1065 in September for Rewilding Toronto, a community art project led by artists @pamlostracco and Jason Logan of @torontoinkcompany. Together, we turned foraged materials into colourful inks and filled the gallery walls with a giant mural celebrating Toronto’s urban nature. Along the way, people got to know their neighbours, got their hands dirty and started seeing familiar streets a little differently. The mural is gone now! But we hope some of that curiosity sticks. 📸 A few favourite moments from the event (by @tanjatiziana). Some of us are peoples of many homes. Some homes are known in our bodies, if not in name. Some of us know home as a distinct place, memory, or community - as safety or as survival. On Friday October 16th, come join us @gallery.1065 during Patty Zuver's exhibit, to share poetry about Home. Sign up for a 5 min slot starts at 6:00pm and poetry begins at 6:30. As always, the theme is just a suggestion and poets of all backgrounds are welcome. PWYW tickets: Link in bio
