BOSTON SAYS FREEZE AI.

On Tuesday, we walked out of our classrooms, workplaces, and daily lives to demand a freeze on new AI until the public gets a say, a stake, and basic safety.

We heard from students, teachers, parents, union leaders, climate leaders, researchers, and chaplains. Across our range of different concerns, we all share one resounding message:

We are not okay with a handful of tech oligarchs deciding our futures. This technology must serve the people.

There is much work ahead. The technology is moving fast, which means that we need to act fast and act in solidarity.

The stakes are too high to not show up for our trans young people. Luckily, our friends at @promomissouri are fighting back and helping other states do the same. This is our final call to ask you to join us this evening, Oct 20th, at 6:30pm ET for an urgent and timely teach-in with PROMO Missouri.

For over a decade the @aapnationalconference was one of the highlights of my year. A place that I thought I was learning from & connecting with colleagues that were there to trouble structure on behalf of kids, not merely accept it.

But the last three years have opened my eyes to the heartbreaking reality that far too many FAAPs & most all of the @ameracadpeds leadership have accepted the structure of silence when it comes to Palestinian lives.

The biggest issue impacting our children's health in 2026 is not vaccines.

It's not Medicaid.

It's not gun violence.

It is dehumanization.

Yet the AAP continues to refuse to acknowledge the incredible harm dehumanization is playing in our society & over the course of the last three years has ignored petitions & letters from members, the internal advocacy of the member elected health equity leadership, & even resolutions voted on & passed by all AAP leaders.

I spoke at the 2022 University of Minnesota School of Public Health commencement about how we all have reasons for our work & seasons in which we do it.

The reason for my work remains the same: trying to heal our kids, communities & healthcare systems by centering marginalized communities & "troubling structure, not merely accepting it."

My season for spending my time, talents & money in the AAP towards that reason has come to an end.

There are other ways to trouble structures like the AAP & other ways to ultimately help bring about the world our children deserve.

This weekend, students from across the country came together in Washington, D.C. for the DC Student Organizing Bootcamp to learn and build the skills needed to organize for stronger campuses and a stronger democracy.

We heard from inspiring leaders including Rep. Jamie Raskin, Mohsen Mahdawi, Barbara Arnwine, Robert Weissman, and organizers who are leading impactful campaigns on campuses nationwide.

Thanks to everyone for coming out! This weekend proved that the future of our democracy is stronger when students come together to organize.

Our team pulled off our first youth pride event in partnership with the DC Mayor’s Office of LGTBQ Affairs and Capital Pride. We are so proud of what we accomplished — and it should be said that the femmes and thems are often the frontline of holding community together.
