One of the most rewarding parts of coaching is when you’re able to look back and see just how far a physique has come. This is Grace. Grace has been a loyal client of mine for years now. Despite winning our first overall together in 2024, I told her I didn’t think she was ready for a national show just yet. This is one thing I feel many coaches aren’t truthful with when it comes to their athletes being competitive at a national show. Just because you win an overall (not just your class) still does not warrant one belonging up on that stage. So though I’m sure it can be a rather difficult conversation to have, it’s moments like this that make them worth it.

Grace has diligently been working to construct a worthy-enough physique. Last week at the NPC Garden State championships, Grace once again swept the show. Winning the overall in both novice and open and this time, I think her physique speaks for itself. Though I can nit-pick and point out even more improvements, we will finally be throwing our hats in the ring next weekend at Universe.

With plans all set, Grace, thank you for putting your head down and working consistently. From what I know, life hasn’t been the kindest to you the last few years. But just like many things in life, the path to your destination isn’t always the easiest to travel. Yet the journey is somehow always worth it.

Just know, my feedback will always be to get better, but I feel like it’s only because I believe in your full potential in this sport.

Swipe to see the evolution of Grace.

Bodybuilding rebuilt my soul 🕊️✨

It taught me that discipline isn’t punishment but devotion. Devotion to becoming someone stronger than the version of me who was lost in the chaos of worldly things.

There were seasons where I didn’t recognize myself, I was a complete stranger even to my family. I couldn’t even go to the grocery store and think about what “Sophia” needed for fear of making the wrong decision. My nervous system took over in ways I couldn’t control because of patterns it had learned over time. Panicking I wasn’t being timely enough for someone else’s standard, rushing everywhere and unable to stay present. Dissociating from my reality because it was too painful to accept that I was too far gone. Brain in survival mode, emotional scars blinding me from who I was prior to the abuse. Many dark mornings, heavy thoughts about what I had done and doubt that it will ever get better. Silent battles no one saw and the lies I told to cover up what was happening behind closed doors.💔

And in those moments, bodybuilding became my anchor. It was the path to getting to know who I was again. After being catapulted from that environment by the grace of God and support from my family, I chose to put my head down instead of publicly blasting and blaming the person who did this to me. I didn’t care how long it took. I was devoted to getting my memory back, rekindling the joy and light I once had as a child and reaching out to her every day for I knew she was still inside of me somewhere. ❤️‍🩹

I wasn’t nearly as interested in picking apart my body as much as I was invested into bringing my soul back to life. This chapter was for my complete personal growth. Bodybuilding showed me how to sit with discomfort and stop running from it. To move even when I was afraid. To detach from the energetic grip those demons had on my spirit and tune out all the narrative control from lack of accountability.
I knew the truth, that was more than enough.

Practice your craft 🪄✨

This is 5 months of showing up when no one was clapping. I wasn’t even in prep for the first 3. I chose to practice even when I didn’t look the part. Just me in a room doing the same poses over and over.

Consistency is repeating the basics when you are bored. Fixing small details no one else would notice yet. Choosing to get 1 percent better in private instead of waiting to feel confident in public. The work behind the scenes is what earns you the stage 🤭

And this is not just about bodybuilding…

It’s about your lifts.
Your meals.
Your steps.
Your mindset.
How you take care of yourself when no one sees it.

You don’t become confident and then start.
You start and then confidence catches up.

Whatever your craft is right now, practice it. Even if it feels small. Even if no one notices yet. If it matters to you, that is enough.

That is how you build something real 🔥 7 weeks out…
