Exploring LGBTQIA+ love poems in the Ploughshares archive and drawing from our June 26th Celebration of Love reading (available to watch on PS), Senior Reader Kit Freeman’s PS essay emphasizes the importance of queer ancestry and queer visibility in contemporary literary journals.

Queerness is plural, Freeman posits, “both fierce and tender, both bold and subtle.” Freeman takes readers through an archival retrospective with a fresh, contemporary approach. Read the essay at the link in bio.

I’m thrilled to share some photos from the SMU Symposium on Poetic Form! Each poetry reading was gorgeous; every panel was brilliant; the round table discussions were just as much fun as they were insightful. There’s really nothing else like it—a place where some of the most incredible poets and poetry scholars get together. Thank you to everyone who attended! It’s such an honor working with Project Poëtica at @smu.english 💙 (and thank you, @kathytranx, for the extraordinary photos!)

What happens when we stop calling someone a muse and start calling them a collaborator? We’re excited to share that @gram_ktf, an @smu.english graduate student, is giving a talk from Rome that rethinks the relationship between John Keats and Fanny Brawne as collaborative partners in writing.

Through poems, letters, and the idea of the “Chameleon Poet,” this talk offers a fresh way to read Keats and a powerful reminder of what English scholarship can do.

Happy National Bird Day!

We found the White Rock Lake Bald Eagles building their nest on Saturday. Incredible to finally see them.
