It started two days ago with one simple thread: I wanna hear pivot stories from women over the age of 40 who took a scary leap into the unknown and are better for it

If you’re new here, I’m about to turn 46 and pivot once again in life, this time into a career in insurance which is a wild departure from my previous career experiences in radio and as a content creator but one that will offer me the flexibility I want at this point in life. I’ll never stop creating content and sharing my life on social media, I love it too much, but let’s be real - this place doesn’t offer benefits or a retirement plan and I refuse to work until the day I die

I don’t do well with change and I’m nervous, but also super excited about the opportunity to flex my brain and learn something new

I would like to keep the feeling of walking through a market in a faraway place. And of having the woman at the temezcal say, “now I will purify you with incense smoke.” Of having my heart broken by sweet pups and beautiful giant things it would be impossible to take home. And of a day drink in a palapa in the jungle surrounded by giant glass prisms filled with mezcal. Of roadside jugglers. These things feel real.

I’m absolutely thrilled to finally launch my new collection of robes, designed and made in Bali.

I never set out to make robes, but fate has a funny way of surprising you and leading you in directions you never really meant to sail. I found some people making astoundingly beautiful fabrics made with natural plant dyes or using traditional processes like ikat weaving or hand stamped batik.

I want to live in a world where things are made to be held, where tactility, care, and small pleasures sustain us. Where hands shape with intention, and materials reconnect us with the earth.

It’s hard to know what to offer the world right now. But sharing and supporting the work of artisans has long been important to me. So it’s a start, an ember maybe.

@handandember is a beginning. A collection of things meant to be enjoyed, touched, loved for years.
