If you need your cup refilled today you’re in the right place, friend

It started two days ago with one simple thread: I wanna hear pivot stories from women over the age of 40 who took a scary leap into the unknown and are better for it

If you’re new here, I’m about to turn 46 and pivot once again in life, this time into a career in insurance which is a wild departure from my previous career experiences in radio and as a content creator but one that will offer me the flexibility I want at this point in life. I’ll never stop creating content and sharing my life on social media, I love it too much, but let’s be real - this place doesn’t offer benefits or a retirement plan and I refuse to work until the day I die

I don’t do well with change and I’m nervous, but also super excited about the opportunity to flex my brain and learn something new

These responses and the hundreds of others have me feeling invincible right now and I hope they do the same for you

I’ve tagged the commenters I was able to locate on this platform. Tap the photos and show them some love 🫶🏻

✨ EDIT - due to the response to this concept I’ve decided to make this a series. Feel free to check my latest posts for more and don’t forget to submit your pivot stories by DM’ing me

When I was 45 and no longer able to work my job as a bedside nurse after my (now ex) husband broke my shoulder trying to kill me, I started working at a cannabis farm. I’m one of 5 main workers who do it all-seed to sale. Previously had a black thumb but this job is so cool! I make my own hours mostly and have a lot less stress

Started teaching myself SQL at 40. Got a job as a SQL dev at 43 and now at 47 I have a career as a data engineer and managed to triple my income in 4 years. Next up is buying a van and being a digital nomad while finishing writing my first book.

Late to the game! Got laid off Feb 2026 after 28yrs in IT. Decided to quit corporate life and pursue my dream of being a lactation consultant. I’m a full time student and will be done May 2027. In college at the same time as my sons. Loving this new pivot at 52! Don’t miss the stress of corporate life!

I’m 51 and just started my associates in health sciences. For the last 13yrs I’ve struggled with a debilitating illness that remained undiagnosed until my decades long search for answers got me my diagnosis in 2019. It took another 6 years to discover and target a spinal fluid leak that was a major player in my symptoms. I’ve wanted to go to college for so long, and even though my spinal leak journey has not resolved and I feel like absolute 💩 most days, I decided to just go for it. I’ll be finishing my first term in 2 weeks.

I accepted a job offer on my 40th birthday that would take me into a very different sub field of my professional field. It involved new training and some exams. The first year was rough, but not because of the job itself, but because of Covid and the subsequent lack of child care. But we made it through and I haven't regretted the decision one single time.

Studied fashion design, worked in fashion, film, project managed for NGO’s, learnt to code, worked as a test engineer for a few years. 36 and about to go to uni for the first time part-time, hoping to go into agritech and food systems. Sounds boring probably but I’m excited. Also started 3 different martial arts 4 months ago and I’m finally making art again. 🥹

I moved across the country to a city where I knew absolutely no one. Built community started chasing a dream to do stand up comedy and after less than a year of doing it i was in the World Series of standup. Life JUST starts after 40!
