💐Birthday Recap Pt.2💐

Weeks later, I am still soaking in the love from my 30th birthday brunch🥂🥹

My heart is so full having been surrounded by family and pamilya as I entered a new decade. Brunch was filled with all the best things- surprises that blew my mind (my parents?! at may itinerary kapa?! 🤣), laughter that made my cheeks and belly ache, delicious food, and memories that will last longer than any tulip ever could 🌷

So far, my 30s feels like a garden I’ve been tending to - not rushed, not perfect, yet finally flourishing with love, intention, and unstoppable growth

Special MARAMING SALAMAT to @alwaysstellamarieee , @heeysweetrice & @11yebbea for putting everything together. Thank you din to @dearspot05 @roneric @vilma_edrosa @meggraeban @alwaysstellamarieee & @wildchicagone for your words of celebration, reflection and encouragement.

Finally had the chance to check out @delsur.bakery and was in awe of not just their pastries, but also their beautiful space. 😍 I went on a Thursday while my cousin was in town visiting and there was no line. We were in and out within 15 minutes.

I’ve had the Longanisa Croissant and Pandan Basque Cake when @jtlerias was still doing popups in @sidepractice.coffee, so I made sure to try new items!

In the box:
• Turon Danish
• Food of the Gods Muffin
• Calamansi Chamomile Bun
• Chai Roll
• Seasonal Galette
• Ube Oatmeal Cream Pie
• Bibingka

I also tried their Housemade Chai and added their housemade salted pandan syrup and wow! I wish I could drink that everyday. 🤤

The hubs and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary this past Wednesday with breakfast at @lulacafe in Logan Square. It was the first time there for both of us and we were blown away by how delicious everything was. Definitely worth driving in morning traffic on 90/94. 😂

🍽️ On the table:
• French Omelet (the liuzzi ricotta and sweet corn was 🤤)
• Charred Scallion Biscuits
• Buttermilk Pancakes
• Chocolate Maritozzi
• Corn and Stone Fruit Pinwheel
• Thai Tea Sorbet
• Cantaloupe Sorbet

A couple of weeks ago after a weekend of camping at Rock Cut State Park, some friends and I enjoyed a delicious brunch at @27_aluna in Rockford, Illinois. Chef @james_patrick_alberto even came out for a bit to chat with all of us. It was so great connecting with another fellow Filipino small biz owner. Looking forward to going back and checking out their dinner menu!

🍽️ On the table:
• Pork Lumpiang Shanghai
• Ube Pancakes (with cinnamon whipped cream, sugar milk syrup, and toasted coconut)
• House-made Pandesal (with herbed sweet garlic butter)
• Chicken Adobo Sangwits!
• “EGGBOIIIEE!”

Welcome to my kawaii life. 🌷 It’s no easy feat to put on an event, let alone operate your shop, run the sound, and emcee the thing! But, after three years of kawaii in Las Vegas, this still is one of my most favorite things to do.

I do a lot of the event planning myself, but this is only because I have a very willing team behind me who I can trust to just take care of things on the day of. As much work as it is to plan the event in the days leading up to Kawaiipalooza Las Vegas, I would argue that the day of the event is when I do the least amount of work. This is because the team I work with is made of up individuals who are self-starters and just take the lead in whatever task gets thrown at them.

This year’s team was essentially the same as last, with just a few additions. Thank you immensely to all of the following people.

Kayla, Katherine, Nalu, Daven, and Jackie - These are my cousins and siblings. They have been up for this since day one! In addition to setting up and resetting the space, here’s what they covered during KPLV25:

Kayla & Katherine - Vendor check in, RSVP check in, organizing raffle baskets, and raffle ticket purchases.
Nalu & Daven - Vendor setup assistance, doorman duties, line monitoring, all the heavy lifting
Jackie - Overall event floor management and logistics, event photographer/videographer, raffle draw extraordinaire, Trinket Trade sign holder lol

Jayden & Zoe - Two awesome vendor friends who I asked to help out and they showed up! These two covered the Book Drive collection even though I thought it would have the smallest participation. I was so wrong, lol. I am so proud of them for handling this along with both of their shops’ sales. You both are awesome and put in so much work!

A special shoutout goes to my cousin, Camelia, one of the founders of Kawaiipalooza in Chicago. She held down the Kawaiipalooza Instagram page and reposted all of your stories and my posts leading up to the event. It was hard to keep up with all the posts but she made it happen!

My caption is too long! A separate post to come with more thank yous, especially to our kawaii vendors! 💛

The first snow of the year. It forced me to pause and reflect on how fast the seasons change. I'm reminded of my first big market and all the mixed emotions I felt leading up to the day. I was worried I wouldn't sell anything.

To my surprise, the first person who purchased an item ended up being more than a customer... it was the beginning of a friendship with him and his wife. To this day, we still keep in touch and support each other with our businesses.

It all goes back to the #relationships we cultivate in our lives.

This small encounter kept me centered and silenced my concerns of failure. It's amazing how the right person can enter your life and their presence alone is exactly what you need in that moment.

No matter how brief each interaction may be, I'm very grateful to the people who have supported the mission of Salamat Designs. The true purpose isn't about selling..it's the giving back to the community that makes this journey #meaningful

That day, your #generosity supported 26 meals towards the Christmas luncheon we are preparing for in December!

Salamat (thank you) for your support!

Hi Daddy,

On Sunday, we had your funeral service. Family and friends came to pray, share, and just be with us. All three of your children said a few words, telling bits of the story that is your life. We cried, we smiled, we laughed.

The most beautiful music was sung and played by some of your favorite pamangkin, @katbabyyyyy @hellocamelia @sankarlomiguel @sherrrios @k_m_e21

We love our cousins so much for helping us make it the most beautiful service. We know you loved music. We know you loved when we all sang together. So we knew they made this day perfect.

We haven’t finished laying you to rest, but we continue to celebrate your life. After your service, we did it in a way we knew you’d love–by eating, singing and dancing. We learned to enjoy life from you.

Thank you for the music, daddy. I miss you. Love you. 💛
