This is hot stuff! It’s a very VERY special edition of XPOSURE with Self-Cut Bangs, sharing their new record Growth Spurts in its entirety, ahead of its release this Friday.
It’s the third record from the Calgary rockers, and oh-so-special in that it’s the first one recorded with the full band as a “unit”. Perhaps best described as loud, hooky, and the best album ever made*, the record is inspired by, and about, the rapid musical, romantic, and familial growth within the band. It’s everything perfect about music. Big hooks, guitars, and hearts painting a picture of growing close, growing a sound, growing up, and growing a human.
Cayley & Shawn are taking over XPOSURE, walking you track-by-track through the record, front-to-back. I (Logan), since catching wind of the record’s production a few years ago, have been pestering the band to make sure we get to play it in its entirety ahead of release. And that day is finally here!
People sometimes ask me, “Logan, what kind of music do YOU like?” and it’s often hard to quantify and qualify exactly what it is I’m attracted to in music. Or rather, at least it was. Now I can just point to Self-Cut Bangs’ Growth Spurts and say: “That! That’s what I like!”
I hope you love it as much as I do.

Damn babes what a summer. These pictures hardly sum up what a wild season it was. Filled with jumping out over the prairies at 13,000 feet with @seannajefferson & @skydiveextremecalgary, and one of my fav events of the year @yycmusicawards and rocker steez with @rebeccaraabis, of course cruising up to Edmonton with the boys for @foofighters & @queensofthestoneage, a wild Stampede season, pouring 🍾 @dearrouge, seeing @amnthewilderness @jacksmannequin & @somethingcorporate in Chicago, blueing myself for @x929calgary (and of course the new gig) and a few too many late nights plus getting matching tattoos with @rubywatersmusic @heyheylogan_ & @kaye.b1

Logan Middleton has spent most of his life obsessed with music. Now, as the host of Xposure on X92.9, he gets to put that obsession to work for Calgary artists.

We talk about growing up as the kid who cared way too much about bands, finding his lane in radio, taking over a show he had listened to since X92.9 launched, and what he has learned from hearing 50 to 100 new submissions in a week. Logan breaks down what catches his ear, why seeing a band live can completely change his read on them, and what that first commercial radio spin can mean for an artist.

We also get into the bigger role Xposure can play. Kue Varo moving from Xposure into the main X92.9 playlist. Other stations paying attention to what X is doing. Shy Friend showing up with a full plan and turning their Xposure appearance into one of Logan’s favourite episodes. And why he thinks Calgary’s music scene has a level of friendship and support that is not necessarily normal in other cities.
