There will be a morning during prep when you question whether you can keep going.

You’ll wake up tired. Hungry. Sore. Flat.

The stage that once excited you will suddenly feel impossibly far away. You’ll look in the mirror and pick yourself apart.

Not lean enough.
Not big enough.
Not good enough.

And you’ll wonder why you ever believed you could do this.

Some people will only see a bodybuilding show. They won’t see the early alarms, the meals eaten alone, the missed dinners, or the effort it took just to get through another day.

Eventually, you’ll ask yourself:

“Why am I doing this?”

And the answer will have to go deeper than a trophy. Because nobody can promise you a win.

But months ago, you made yourself a promise.

“I want to find out what I’m capable of.”

That difficult morning is part of finding out.

You learn something about yourself when the excitement fades and you still take the next step. When you ask for help. When you make the adjustments you need and keep showing up.

Then one day, you’ll be backstage.

Tanned. Nervous as hell. Your heart pounding as they call your class.

And you’ll realize:

“I made it.”

You’ll walk out carrying every doubt you worked through and every promise you kept to yourself.

Someday, prep will be over. The hunger will fade. Your routine will change. But you’ll remember the person you became along the way.

You may even miss those early mornings: the quiet, the purpose, the feeling of working toward something that mattered so much to you.

Because while you were counting down the days, you were living a chapter you’d never forget.

And if you’re at the beginning, dreaming about your first show and wondering where to start, know this:

You don’t need to have every answer today. Find good guidance. Make a plan. Give yourself permission to be a beginner.

Then take that first step.

Whether your goal is a stage, a stronger body, or a different life, give yourself the chance to discover how far you can go.

The trophy 🏆 will tell you where you placed. The journey will show you who you became.

So what are you waiting for? Come join the Built Uncommon family. Your journey STARTS HERE

Yesterday, I stepped on stage and came home with three first-place finishes and the 2026 Colorado Classic Overall Championship. But I didn’t get there alone. Behind that win are the people who stood beside me through the long hours, the sacrifices, the exhaustion, and every moment when I needed a little more strength. This victory belongs to all of you, too.

To my wife, my best friend what can I say except thank you? You’ve lived this journey right alongside me. You made sure I had everything I needed and went above and beyond to help me be ready. When I was tired, hungry, or struggling, you kept encouraging me and wouldn’t let me give up on myself. I see everything you do, and I’m grateful for your love, your patience, and the sacrifices you’ve made. I love you.

To my mother, my number one fan thank you for always being there, emotionally and physically, to help me through the rough times. You taught me to work hard, keep pushing, and never give up when things get difficult. So much of the determination I carry comes from you and the example you’ve set. Thank you, Mom. I love you.

To my beautiful kids thank you for cheering me on, loving me, and supporting me through this process. You give me so much motivation to keep going. I hope that watching me chase this dream reminds you to believe in yourselves and keep working toward the things you love. Being your dad will always be my greatest pride.

To all my family and friends thank you for every message, every word of encouragement, and all the love you’ve shown me throughout this crazy journey. Knowing I had you in my corner helped me push through more than you know.

And to my coach thank you for believing in me, pushing me beyond what I thought I could do, and treating me like a brother. We followed the plan, put in the work, and brought it home together.

I’m proud, grateful, and still taking it all in. We worked for this, and we were victorious.

But one thing is certain I’m not done yet. There’s more work to do and more goals to chase. With this kind of love and support behind me, I’m ready to keep pushing.

On to the next one. LFG! 🏆💪#bodybuilding #fitfam #musclequest #supple

You don’t have to be the favorite.
You don’t have to have the perfect schedule, perfect genetics, or perfect week.
You just have to keep showing up.
Underdogs are built differently.

They learn to work when it’s hard, adjust when life gets messy, and keep moving when nobody’s watching.
That’s what Built Uncommon is about.

Comment “RESET” if you’re ready to keep building.

When the week falls apart, simplify before you quit.
Keep two workouts that matter most.

Make the first 10 minutes easy enough to start.
And if you miss one?

Resume. Don’t repay.
You don’t need to punish yourself with extra cardio or a marathon workout because life got busy.

You need a plan that helps you return.
Save this for the week that refuses to cooperate.

Comment “RESET” if you want help building a training plan that works even when life gets messy.

Your bike makes one weird noise and you bring it to a professional.
Your brain makes weird noises for three years and somehow the plan becomes, “I’ll probably figure it out.” 😂
We hire help for everything else.
Cars. Houses. Bikes. Taxes. Plumbing.
But when it comes to our mental health or physical health, we suddenly act like we’re supposed to know everything ourselves.
I’ve learned that lesson the hard way.
Getting a therapist was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for my mental health. Huge shoutout to Emalea Landgraff for being in my corner.
And this week I hired Hugh at Built Uncommon to help with my training, nutrition, and accountability.
Immediate difference.
There’s something powerful about having an actual human paying attention, expecting you to show up, and helping you see the stuff you can’t always see yourself.
So if you’ve been thinking about hiring a therapist, coach, trainer, or someone else to help you get where you’re trying to go:
Hire the human.
Asking for help isn’t failing the test.
It’s hiring someone who studied for it. 🤘

The biggest transformation in my life wasn’t what happened to my body.
It was realizing my past didn’t have to control what came next.
Getting sober was the first step. Fitness gave me structure, discipline, confidence, and something healthier to keep building toward.

That’s a big part of why I coach today.
I know what it feels like to wonder if you can actually change.

You can.
Not overnight. Not through one perfect week.
One decision, repeated.

That’s how you build something uncommon.

You don’t lose your progress because you missed a workout.
Consistency isn’t perfect attendance. It’s knowing how to return.
Real life happens. Work gets busy. Kids need you. Energy dips.

The goal isn’t to never miss.
The goal is to come back without turning one missed day into a missed month.

Comment “RESET” if you’re ready to build consistency that actually fits real life.

Your kids are watching. Even when you think they're not.

That's a thought that should hit every parent a little differently.

What if your kids grew up with your habits?

Your discipline.
Your work ethic.
Your attitude.
Your excuses.
The way you handle adversity.
The way you treat your body.
The way you treat other people.
The way you show up when life gets hard.

Would you be proud of the person they became?

Here's the thing about being a parent. We can tell our kids to work hard, chase their dreams, be kind, stay disciplined, and never give up.

But our actions will always speak louder than our advice.

You don't have to be perfect. Hell, none of us are.

But you better be willing to lead by example.

Get up when it's hard. Keep your promises. Take care of yourself. Chase something bigger. Show them what commitment looks like.

Because one day, they might become a reflection of the habits you practice today.

Don't just raise your kids to be uncommon. SHOW THEM HOW.

Set the standard.
Lead from the front.
BECOME UNCOMMON. 🔥

Fitness doesn't stop when life gets busy. Your plan shouldn't either.

Between work, raising kids, family responsibilities, and everything in between, staying consistent with fitness isn't always easy.

For busy parents and working professionals trying to lose body fat, build muscle, and get stronger, the answer isn't always more discipline or longer workouts.

It's having a realistic fitness plan that works around your life, not against it.

At Built Uncommon, our online fitness coaching focuses on sustainable progress, flexible workout routines, and building habits you can maintain, even when life doesn't go according to plan.

Because missing a workout doesn't mean you've failed. What matters is knowing how to get back on track.

FOLLOW THE PROCESS, NOT THE PERFORMANCE.

Ready to build a stronger version of yourself without putting your life on hold? Follow @builtuncommon for practical fitness advice, strength training tips, and real-life coaching for busy parents.
