A morning of cooking, conversations, plenty of questions and lots of laughter.

Today I was back at Honesty Cookery School teaching Vegetables, Spice and Everyday Indian Kitchen.

We made brinjal and potato curry, mixed vegetable poriyal, chapatis and raita, before sitting down together for lunch.

There were lots of questions as we cooked — about substitutions, what else could be added and different ways of adapting the recipes. I always enjoy these conversations and sharing the little tips and tricks that come up along the way.

And chapati didn’t quite stop at chapati! We made phulkas and I showed them a few variations of lachha paratha too.

Everyone in today’s class was a first-timer, so it was particularly lovely to read their comments afterwards — and to know that they’d all like to come back.

A good day all round.

The Black Legend comes home this Halloween.

This Halloween, join us for a special screening of a film made right here in our village.

Filmed in Inkpen and neighbouring Combe in 1948, The Black Legend brings the chilling 17th-century tale behind Combe Gibbet to the screen. The directorial debut of Oscar-winning filmmaker John Schlesinger, it features local villagers alongside a young Robert Hardy.

For one night only, we’ll be showing the restored and remastered version, with narration recorded by Hardy himself.

Gather at The Crown & Garter for an atmospheric evening of local cinema, history and dark folklore. There’s something rather special about watching a story unfold in the very place it began.

Saturday 31 October · 7.30pm · The Crown & Garter, Inkpen.

Spaces are limited. Book via the link in our bio. All proceeds from ticket sales go to St Michael’s Church and Inkpen History Society.
