december 11: exactly one year ago TODAY was the super soft open of @fatesbreadandbottle - and just as i had last year, quietly before the open i gave myself a moment to sit, sip and savour the stillness with gratitude and anticipation... and last night i found myself doing the very same, but this time with the company of my now-partner, in business, life, and love.
we sat at the chef's table to enjoy a midnight snack of a homemade gochujang mac & cheese, some Portuguese pet nat and late nite renovations of the bar we are expanding so that he can join my team and help me bring even more love to the community I have been blessed to serve this past year. [not to mention new shelves in my kitchen, a new fridge, speed racks, organization, expansion and joy.]

I made a promise to myself that my first year would be a year of dedication to discovery, momentum and figuring things the f*ck out as I went along and committed to creating a safe and loving space. There has been so much laughter, many tears, uncertain and lonely moments and deeply fulfilling moments alike… and as I round the bend to my official start of year two on January 1-
I realized i have met and exceeded my goal and already fully embracing the goal I gave myself for next year: excellence, expansion and depth.

the still, not-so-quiet voice in the back of my heART that has been propelling me forward is still speaking up, still telling me to keep going, still telling me this is right, this is good, and that i am home.

So off I go into year two with all the love in my heart and then some- and there is plenty to share…here, let us pour you some. xx

one year ago today I unlocked the doors of @fatesbreadandbottle and stepped across the threshold of my very own brick and mortar- as mine- for the very first time. I had just returned from driving across the desert and up the coast in a uhaul with one of my best and dearest friends, after the epic efforts and help of my spawn and chosen family to pack up as much as I could from my az home to get here in time.
one year ago today i unpacked a few boxes of midcentury glassware, cookbooks, crystals, pots and pans, had my first wine tasting with my now very dear friend @juiceinthebasement, swept, dusted shelves...and as i unwrapped art and blasted the cramps and fugazi, i imagined the future soundtrack of glasses clinking, friendships forming, laughter growing.

one year ago today I began my forever.

one year ago today I had no idea the joy, peace, love, community, healing and absolute delight that would fill every day forward [and of course a few tears, too. let's creep it real, folx].
one year ago to today... every single moment has been a gift, and every day going forward I will strive to *be* a gift to all who enter my space.

I am so grateful- and i am so ready to begin and build year two. this is more than a business. it's personal.
i love you.

this has always been a guiding principle for me to stay present, to feel and grow through pain and uncertainty and to hold fast to hope, always.
i am ever so glad i kept #movingforward- and continue to do so. i have survived terrible violence and abuse, painful betrayal, bullsh*t and loss, but i have also experienced a magnitude of abundance, friendship, beauty and love in this lifetime- and i've only just started. [i'm aging in reverse, i decided]

there is always something to be grateful for, someone to love, nourish, cherish and feed, something heavy to let go, untruths about yourself and the world to unlearn, beauty to create and life to truly savour.
just keep going, keep growing. i'm so glad i did. i still am.

this time last year i followed my heart to portland for some reprieve, but rather than a vacation, i found my purpose and fate here instead. i found a community, opened a wine bar, kept the dearest connections and love back in az and made deep and beautiful new friendships here, too. i found the sweetest and kindest and most unexpected love and am building happiness together with this dear and wonderful soul. i discovered seasons !!!!, rivers, moss, flowers, vines, bounty... and snow!
i found peace- from the inside out.
i found my smile again.
i found myself.

now... i have to go organize and taste some wine, make my prep list for weekend service, rewrite this week's menu and mop some floors. dreams don't build themselves. go go go. never settle. boundaries are beautiful. find gratitude in the little things. never quit. i love you. xx

this is the face of one grateful, happy, exhausted and quite possibly batshit crazy chef. this life is so delicious, and i am savoring every bit of it.
i have SO MANY amazing souls keeping me going, joyful and loved behind the scenes near and far and i would NOT be here and smiling without you guys. your sacrifice, service and sass propel me forward DAILY and i would have fallen hard without your strength, friendship, encouragement, input, humor and heART in all the many ways i have been blessed by each of you as i have built this little witchy wine bar. my chosen family, amazing neighbors, kind community, my two incredible spawn and sweet pup, dear friends new and forever..
i love you all so godsdamn much.
@fatesbreadandbottle exists and is KILLIN IT in a big way because of each and every one of you, my real mvps. words do not suffice at all here, but i'm reflecting on you all this morning with BIG BIG FEELS. 🥹♥️🏆 community is everything. we all need to care for each other, and no way is too small. do what we can, when we can, how we can. just show up. be kind. listen. care. love.
all we need is love.
and i fucking love you.

k, now back to it. these dreams don't build themselves, and i have dishes to do, bread to bake, wine to pour and a community to welcome into my little home....and i gotta choose a good playlist today: top priority. xx

it's godamn brutal out here for us industry folx - but one thing we never do is quit. we keep moving forward, keep adapting, keep creating, keep our knives SHARP and our heads UP.

@thehungryhomie_az is the absolute GOAT + the realest of the real and i am beyond grateful to call this human my dear friend and constant inspiration. @snapbackpizzeria was our fav, was a place of collaboration and support for my lil bb business The Fates in the early days and for SO many other small operations and chef ryan has been one of my biggest supporters. he keeps the az community real, and strong, and keeps me pushing and growing as a chef, too.

this final chapter for Snapback is just the beginning of so much more, and while it's fucking sad to see this door close, i know we are just gonna watch you build the whole godamn empire next.
you got this, and we got you.
love you chef.

still so moved by yesterday's grand open for @fatesbreadandbottle and all the support and kindness of each and every soul who has gotten me this far. i have so much to learn, so much yet to accomplish, and so many wonderful people yet to serve and love.
