Wine Century [2/2] The Ride

This was my first year on the full version of the course. Last year was Sara’s longest ride to day (100km) but it had skipped the Monte Rio climb and Guerneville section.

The morning, while a bit chilly, was my favorite section of the day. Tree-lined roads along Bohemian Highway that would open up to rows of vines and get swallowed up again around the next bend.

The forest mostly fell away in the afternoon and we spent the day tracing alongside wineries. I was enjoying the pace all day and feeling strong but after 85 miles the Chalk Hill climb always does a number on the legs.

Luckily the last 14 miles consisted of descending back to Santa Rosa, 1 extra mile of shenanigans to make it a full century and then off to a well earned lunch and beverage. Complete with a mini It’s-It and we were ready for the hot tub.

Incredibly grateful to have this epic scenery so close to home and such strong community stewardship of the land.

Wine Century [1/2] The Crew
This was my second Wine Century presented by the Santa Rosa Century Club. Some version of this ride has been in existence since 1981!

Shout out to the 200+ volunteers who helped put this on this year. This event feels like one of the most well run in NorCal from aid stations to SAG teams everything felt smooth.

Jake and Adrien decided to make the event even more adventurous by riding on fixies and crushed it on the hills!

This year we a fantastic house with hot tub (essential for recovery) and made tacos and bbq to make up for the days caloric consumption.

Sadly, we were missing two from the crew this year, but I have a feeling we will be back again to harness all the potato power!

our men’s team lit up the berkeley omnium 🔥

from strong pulls to breakaway attempts to climbing prowess, our guys showed well-rounded teamwork!

while charlie tried to stick the breakaway in the crit, he fell back in with the peloton. as aaron pushed the pace off into the breakaway with no hope of the chase catching back, declan broke away with a few laps to go to secure a podium place 🦵

in the road race, it really came down to the final climb on papa bear where delcan and jake fought for podium places 💪 🐻

berkeley hills road race:
🥈 Declan, men’s 4

berkeley streets crit:
🥈 Declan, men’s cat 4
🥇 Chris, men’s cat 5

omnium:
🥈 Declan
🥉 Jake

here go Declan and Aaron to cat 3, and chris up to the cat 4s 🚀

We had teammates throughout the region this past weekend at the @berkeleybike Berkeley Omnium and @seaotterclassic in Monterey! 🎉🙌

We crushed it on the three bears loop 🐻🐻🐻 raced through the Berkeley streets 🛣️ and saw the otters at Laguna Seca racetrack 🦦🦦

We're excited to bring some podiums later this week, but for now we're resting our legs and getting solid recovery! 🍻

#CoffeeOutsideSF, tomorrow, @ Battery Wagner.

If you’ve never been: We’ve been doing this on an off for a decade or so now, most Fridays, when we feel like it.

Bring a coffee brewing setup if you have one, or just bring a cup and some extra water and we should have plenty to go around. Snacks to share are always welcome but never required - I’ll have some goodies from @jellydonuts_415 🍩😋

People filter in and out around 8-10am, but there’s no firm start and you’re welcome to leave anytime without saying bye to anyone. Some folks ride before or after, or just go straight there and back to the city when you get sick of talking to cool people.

I’ll be riding from the Mission around 7am if anyone wants to meet up along the way 👋🏽

Dear Diary on Main,

It’s been a while! Life since my Dark Divide win has been a blur. Funny how work and everything else seems to accelerate before vacation, ensuring you arrive at your destination utterly exhausted.

In the middle of this trip I’ll be doing Badlands (because of course I am), one of Europe’s more famous ultra gravel things (starting at 8am Sunday in Spain, 11pm Saturday in California). 500+ miles and 47,000+ feet of climbing through deserts, mountains, and more. I’ve put a lot of prep into it, so I can’t say I didn’t do my damndest when it’s all said and done, ugh so cringe I know.

Anyway here’re some snippets from the past few weeks, like Felix helping me get ready, riding in whatever heat I could find near San Francisco, fun fam times in Spain so far, etc.

Thanks as always to my family and supporters:

And thank you for reading this far. Peace, love and free Palestine,
