POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

At 16, she should be worrying about her exams, her favourite subject, the dream she can’t stop talking about, or what she wants to become someday.

Not whether she’s running out of time to get married.

Somewhere, a girl is being told to grow up before she has even had the chance to be a child. Somewhere, her dreams are being negotiated, her choices are being made for her, and her future is being decided without her voice.

And perhaps the saddest part is that some of us have become so used to this that we no longer question it.

But what if, instead of asking her when she will marry, we asked what she wants to learn?

What if, instead of preparing her for a life she never chose, we gave her the tools to build one she believes in?

Girls do not need to be rushed into adulthood. They need safe spaces, quality education, access to healthcare, opportunities, and the freedom to imagine a future bigger than their circumstances.

A girl is not running out of time. She is growing. Let her.

This International Day of the Girl Child, let’s go beyond celebrating girls with beautiful words and begin creating a world where they can actually thrive.

September, please 🥺 we’re not doing too much.

I'm already feeling the load of work September is bringing😩😩 anyways...

No pressure to have it all figured out.
No dramatic reinvention.

Just more intention, more grace, meaningful work, and room to actually enjoy the little things.

Happy New Month!

What does it really mean to be a humanitarian?

Sometimes, it is a health worker providing care.
A volunteer distributing food.
A social worker protecting a child.
A development worker, curating programs to suit a community's needs.
A community member checking on a vulnerable neighbour.
Someone simply refusing to look away.

Humanitarian work doesn't have to be dramatic. Humanity is not just about caring. It is about showing up and behind every response is a person who believes that someone’s life, dignity and wellbeing matter.

Today, on World Humanitarian Day, we honour the people who choose to show up when others are facing crisis, displacement, hunger, violence, illness, or uncertainty.

This World Humanitarian Day, may we remember that humanity is not just a feeling, it is a responsibility:

To care.
To act.
To protect.
To speak up.
To show up.

Happy World Humanitarian Day.

July wasn't a chapter I'd planned.

But it became one I'll remember...

It reminded me that life isn't only measured by milestones.

✓ Sometimes it's measured by the people you meet.

✓ The conversations that change you.

✓ The moments you choose presence over perfection.

✓ The courage to begin again.

Here's a little piece of July that made it to my camera...

Thank you for every lesson, July...You were kind, very full, a little messy but maybe that's what I needed.

Hello, August🤗...Let's do exploits together ☺️

I wasn't a Programme Manager last Saturday

I thought I'd be a content creator instead.

Spoiler alert: it didn't go according to plan. 😂

I arrived at Beyond Conversation Enugu determined to film a proper vlog.

I had it all mapped out in my head...

But every time I reached for my phone, I'd hear something that made me put it right back down.

Before I knew it, I had stopped thinking about content altogether.

I was simply... listening.

The irony is that I didn't create the vlog l planned, instead I left with a story worth telling.

I left with far more perspective than I expected. Some conversations deserve your presence more than your camera.

So yes, my vlog didn't quite happen the way I imagined, but I wouldn't trade that experience for a perfectly edited reel.

Thank you, @elicnwa for a conversation that was impossible to scroll past even in real life.

𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴?

I don't think so.

I think it means you're growing.

One thing my work has taught me is that certainty can be dangerous.

Not because confidence is bad.

But because people are complex.

The more conversations I have...

The more communities I visit...

The more stories I hear...

The less interested I become in always being right, and the more interested I become in understanding.

There are beliefs I held five years ago that I no longer hold today.

Not because someone argued with me.

But because people taught me better.

✓ A conversation changed my perspective.

✓ A community challenged my assumptions.

✓ An experience gave me a new lens.

So when you start to sound like this:

"I never thought about it that way before."

That's usually the moment growth has taken root.

Sometimes we hold on to old ideas simply because they're familiar but some of the best decisions I've made began the moment I asked myself:

"What if I've been looking at this the wrong way?"

That one question has made me a better Programme Manager.

A better listener.

And, I hope...

A better human being.

Here are three reminders I'm taking into the weekend:

✓ You don't lose credibility by learning.

✓ Changing your mind isn't a weakness, it can be wisdom.

✓ Stay curious enough to be transformed by what you learn.

"Growth doesn't always come from finding new answers. Sometimes it comes from asking whether your old ones still fit."

Happy Friday!🤗

Good intentions are never enough.

One of the biggest lessons community development has taught me is this:

"Never assume you already know what people" need.

Early in my journey, I believed helping people meant arriving with solutions.

The more experience I gained...The more I realized something uncomfortable.

Sometimes, our biggest obstacle isn't a lack of resources.

It's our ASSUMPTIONS.

We assume we understand people's challenges.

We assume we know what will work.

We assume that because something worked in one community, it will work in another.

But people are not templates.

Every community has its own story, strengths and priorities.

That's why I've learned to replace assumptions with curiosity.

Instead of saying,

"Here's what we should do..."

I now find myself asking,

"Can you tell me more?"

"What does this look like from your perspective?"

"What are we missing?"

Those simple questions have changed the way I design programmes.

And honestly...

They've changed the way I relate to people.

Because the best solutions aren't created by the person who speaks first. They're discovered by the person who listens longest.

These are three questions I never skip before planning a programme:

✓ What am I assuming?

✓ Who haven't we heard from yet?

✓ Are we solving the real problem or the one that's easiest to see?

Those questions have saved me from designing solutions that looked good on paper but wouldn't have made a real difference.

"Curiosity doesn't make you less of a leader. It makes you a better one."

Have you ever wondered what growth should feel like?

Most of us imagine it looks like...

A promotion.

A bigger opportunity.

An award.

A major milestone.

And yes, those moments matter.

But lately, I've been asking myself a different question:

What if some of our biggest growth never makes the headlines?

What if growth looks like...

• Having a difficult conversation with more patience than you would have a year ago.

• Saying "No" without feeling guilty.

• Asking better questions instead of pretending to have all the answers.

• Listening to understand, not just to respond.

I've come to realize that growth is often quiet. It's noticing that the things that once unsettled you no longer have the same power over you.

Those moments rarely get celebrated, yet they may be the clearest signs that you're becoming a different person.

I've also learned that growth isn't always about adding something new.

Sometimes, it's about letting something go.

✓ Letting go of the need to have all the answers.

✓ Letting go of perfection and choosing progress.

✓ Letting go of constantly trying to prove yourself.

I'll share three quiet signs I see and know I'm growing:

✓ I respond instead of reacting.

✓ I choose purpose over pressure.

✓ I'm becoming more interested in understanding than being understood.

Maybe your progress doesn't look impressive to everyone else.

But if you're becoming kinder...

Wiser...

More intentional...

You're growing.

And that's worth celebrating.

"Some of the biggest milestones in life don't come with applause. They come with peace."

Happy Monday!

I 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲𝘀.

I was wrong.

One question changed the way I approach community development forever.

It isn't,

"What programme should we organize?"

But,

"What problem are we trying to solve?"

Early in my career, I thought impactful programmes started with brilliant ideas.

A conference.

A workshop.

A medical outreach.

A campaign.

The bigger the idea, the greater the impact... or so I thought.

With time, I realized that great programmes don't begin with activities. They begin with understanding because if you start with the event, you'll spend your energy trying to make it impressive, but if you start with the problem, you'll spend your energy trying to make it meaningful.

That single shift changed how I plan every project.

Instead of asking,
"What would people enjoy?"

I ask,
"What are people struggling with?"

Instead of asking,
"How many people can we gather?"

I ask,
"What change do we hope they'll leave with?"

Instead of asking,
"How do we make this bigger?"

I ask,
"How do we make this matter?"

One conversation with my mentor, @chiege_u helped me see this more clearly.

It reminded me that growth doesn't always come from another course or another certificate, sometimes, it comes from listening carefully to someone who has worked the path before you.

That's why I believe every leader needs people who challenge the way they think.

Today, before I plan any programme, I ask myself four questions:

📌 What problem are we solving?

📌 Who is most affected?

📌 What does success actually look like?

📌 What happens after the programme ends?

I've learned that the quality of our questions often determines the quality of our impact.

Because the best programmes aren't remembered for how grand they were. They're remembered for how relevant they were.

Note: " A good programme fills a calendar. A great programme fills a need".

I used to think a successful project was all about execution.

A solid plan.

A detailed budget.

Good logistics.

A packed venue.

Happy participants.

If all those boxes were checked, I would consider it a success.

Then I started volunteering with @foodefbi

That's where my understanding of community work began to change.

I realized that communities don't necessarily remember how organized your event was.

They remember how you made them feel.

Did they feel heard?

Did they feel respected?

Did they feel like partners in the process or just beneficiaries?

That shift changed everything for me.

Today, before I think about activities, I think about people.

Before I ask, "How do we execute this?" I ask, "Who are we serving, and what do they actually need?"

Because I've learned that a project can be perfectly executed and still miss the people it was meant to serve.

Three lessons experience taught me:

📌 People are not projects. Relationships matter just as much as results.

📌 A successful event isn't always a successful intervention. Real impact is measured by what happens long after the applause.

📌 Never confuse activity with impact. Being busy doesn't automatically mean you're making a difference.

Those lessons didn't come from a classroom. They came from conversations, from showing up, from listening and from communities that were patient enough to teach me.

So going forward, every time I'm planning a project, I come back to one question:

"Who are we building this for, and have we listened enough before we act?"

Because the best projects don't just solve problems.

They build trust and trust is where lasting impact begins.
