It's been a month since Nuisance Bear received the U.S. Grand Jury Prize for Documentary at Sundance. We've had a chance to reflect on our time in the mountains which felt like an open-eyed dream.

The path to tell this story was long, winding, and at times felt impassable. But if you persevere, if you really believe in something strongly enough, you just keep at it until it happens.

Inuit elder and narrator of this film Mike Tunalaaq Gibbons used to tell us in moments of doubt — we must stand up for what we believe in. We must keep going. No matter how difficult it gets.

Our hearts are bursting, our eyes can shed no more tears. True happiness is to enjoy the present.

It’s already been a week since Nuisance Bear’s World Premiere at The Library. Here are few snapshots from that moment.

I can’t believe it. The bear is back — and it’s headed to Sundance.

It feels like yesterday that Gabby and I took the train to Churchill where I first said I love you.

Without the camera as our record, I might begin to doubt it all happened. The bears put on an incredible show.

I take great inspiration from these animals and the people who call the deep North home. They are not hopeless. They are relentless. They are survivors. They are a reminder that the odds have always been against us — and yet we are still here.

It brings me to tears knowing we will present this film at the last Sundance in Park City. I can’t wait for you to experience what we’ve created and to meet the remarkable team who made it possible.

Thank you for believing in us.

Nuisance Bear
World Premiere
US Documentary Competition
Sundance 2026

Synopsis:
A polar bear is forced to navigate a labyrinth of tourists, wildlife officers, and Inuit hunters as its ancient migration collides with modern life. When this sacred predator is branded a nuisance, it becomes unclear who truly belongs in this shared landscape.
