If you can accurately identify a color, you can accurately mix it. Most color mixing problems aren't actually mixing problems. They're color identification problems. Once you learn to identify a color's Hue, Value, and Saturation, you can break that color down into simple steps. First identify the correct Hue. Then adjust the Value. Then adjust the Saturation using the complementary color. The better you become at identifying color, the easier it becomes to mix virtually any color you can see. She came back for her second half sleeve! Heather is getting a Native American warrior tattoo with nature elements. We are basing the layout of this sleeve off of her first sleeve we did so that they look cohesive on her body. She trusted me in planning the layout and that made is to that we were able to come up with a really amazing idea. Thank you for trusting me Heather! The goal wasn't just another sleeve. It was balance. We designed Heather's second half sleeve to complement the sleeve we finished last year. By using the original mapping and layout as our foundation, we were able to create a design that flows naturally from one side of her body to the other. I am so happy with how these two sleeves work together and honored that Heather trusted us to continue her tattoo journey. Comment "406" to apply for a FREE consultation. Want to see color better than 98% of people? Most people think brown, grey, and white are colors. In reality, they're usually combinations of Hue, Value, and Saturation that can be described much more accurately. One of the best ways to train your eye is to identify the Hue, Value, and Saturation of every color you see until you can consistently guess within 1 Hue, 1 Value, and 10% Saturation. Do that long enough and your ability to see color will dramatically improve. Learning this changed the way I see color forever. The biggest breakthrough in my understanding of color didn't come from buying better supplies or studying more paintings. It came from changing the way I talked about color. I stopped using vague terms like brownish, greyish, and whiteish and started learning to identify color through Hue, Value, and Saturation. That simple shift forced me to pay closer attention, distinguish colors more accurately, and develop a deeper understanding of how color actually works. The way you talk about color shapes the way you see it. This Saint Michael sleeve was designed with purpose. The more I got to know Tyler, the more this design made sense. He's one of the kindest people I know, and his career as a sheriff has been built around serving and protecting others. We mapped his arm and created a custom Saint Michael sleeve that utilized every bit of available canvas to create a layout that fits him perfectly. I couldn't be happier with how this piece is coming together, and I can't wait to continue adding to it. Comment "406" to apply for a FREE consultation. This Norse sleeve turned out better than either of us imagined. Kyle wanted a Norse-inspired tattoo that felt personal to him. By combining meaningful runes that represent strength and adventure, we were able to create unique binding runes that help tell his story throughout the sleeve. I'm so happy with how this piece came together and honored that Kyle trusted me with such a meaningful project. Comment "406" to apply for a FREE consultation. This sleeve combines Norse mythology with something far more personal. Kyle wanted a Norse-inspired sleeve that felt uniquely his. We mapped his body, designed a custom sleeve featuring Odin, Valkyries, ravens, and created custom binding runes built from meaningful symbols representing strength and adventure. The result is a tattoo that tells his story while flowing naturally with his body. Comment "406" to apply for a FREE consultation. Kelly’s first sleeve became a symbol of a new chapter. It has so many elements that have a personal meaning to Kelly. The river represents a place where he chose to bury those monstrous feelings. The road leading to the sunset represents a bright future. We are so happy with how this sleeve turned out and we are honored that Kelly chose our shop to get his first tattoo. At GTG, we care about collectors getting the best tattoos they possibly can, no matter what process they use. If it’s masterfully rendered, structurally sound, and holds up for life, it counts. Tech doesn’t scare us. Weak fundamentals do.
