One of the nation’s largest brownfield sites is now a cultural and economic anchor for the Lehigh Valley. This walking workshop traces how industrial heritage, arts and culture, strategic planning, and public-private partnerships transformed the former Bethlehem Steel site into @steelstacks_pa.

At #APAPA2026, @jared_mcknight and @keiko_tc join Tony Hanna, former Executive Director of the Redevelopment Authority of @cityofbethlehempa to walk participants through the vision, implementation, and long-term community and economic impacts behind the award-winning redevelopment.

Tour requires registration for the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Planning Association’s 2026 Conference, see you this weekend!

It’s been a wild, emotional, fun, beautiful, expensive, hilarious, challenging, educational ride making this proof-of-concept film. THANK YOU to every single person who was a part of bringing it to life. There’s literally 100+ of you.

“For whom do we design?” That question runs through @jared_mcknight’s work, from his USC thesis on the spatial politics of homelessness in Los Angeles to more than a decade of practice at WRT across landscape architecture, urban design, planning, and architecture.

Jared is now President of ASLA’s Southern California Chapter (@socalasla) for 2026-27, representing members across eight counties. His priorities for the year focus on lowering the geographic barriers between those communities, connecting students, emerging professionals, and firm leaders, and expanding the chapter’s advocacy work.

We sat down with him after the ASLA 2026 Conference in Los Angeles to talk about leadership, access, and the mentors who shaped his path. His advice for the next generation: “Leadership begins with a willingness to show up, connect, and serve.”
