on a sun-soaked day in May, a mysterious man in a hat was spotted on the canal-lined streets of a Provençal town.

His mission?

To make a short film of this lesser-visited French gem, consisting of pensinsulas and islands, sandwiched between the Mediterranean sea and the Étang de Berre lagoon.

This short film is in fact the one you are watching now:
"The Man in Martigues", which opens with the iconic « Miroir aux Oiseaux » with its colourful houses and crystal clear waters, where boats bob gently in the breeze.

⏪ 10 years ago, after the onset of a wave of compositional post-holiday inspiration, I wrote a few songs... Here you see a behind-the-scenes look at one of them entitled "Canigou" on 27th August 2016.

Since then – life, studies and work have all gotten in the way of recording these songs but, ⏩ fast-forward to 2026, now that I'm older, wiser + back home in London, I feel ready to get these down in the studio and perform them live...

▶️ In 2022, I released my first mixed full home demos (on YouTube) for 2 tracks: "Jour Férié" and "Brink of Night" – the latter a more gloomy post-punk adaptation of "Canigou".

📀 And so here we are, with quite a few new songs added along the way, in 2026 with my debut album ON THE OTHER SHORE taking shape.

The first concrete release from this record will be the single "It's Not Too Late", for which I released 1 second snippets of the intro in May 2025.

Other musicians reading this, maybe you relate to this tale of having to shelve your own music but, I suppose, like my upcoming single... it's not too late?

3 different bass guitars... which one would you choose? 🤔

Would like something very versatile to record and play live with, from post-punk, new wave & indie rock & to jazz, funk, soul, salsa & trip-hop.

♪ Analysis of a few passages from Fryderyk Chopin's Revolutionary Étude in C minor (published in 1831).

🎞️ Recording is from 6th March 2018 on a Yamaha Grand Piano in London, played by me, joey thomas brooks 🎹 @jbrookslondon

One of the coolest aspects of playing any Chopin work, I'd say would be the variations & embellishments – it's almost as if he's riffing off a previous passage and then just writing down this elaborate improvisation. I guess back in the day he'd play it differently every single time himself.
