The Future of Chicago's Dogs starts in Chicago Neighborhoods.

MASH: Chicago is here for exactly that!

MASH brings high volume spay and neuter directly into communities, while helping dogs stay home with the people who love them.

We transform trusted neighborhood spaces into fully functioning temporary surgical centers, complete a minimum of 130 dog surgeries in three days, return consistently, and measure what happens to shelter intake over time.

We’re learning alongside the champions and our dear friends @animalbalance and working with the City of Chicago to create the pathway to make neighborhood based prevention possible, repeatable and measurable.

This is a REVOLUTION.

Dog overpopulation and shelter intake aren’t just Chicago problems. Cities across the country are facing the same challenges.

Chicago has an opportunity to show what happens when a city invests upstream.

Prevention as infrastructure.

This is MASH: Chicago.

Launching Garfield Park: November 2026.

Love our humans. Love our dogs. Love our city.

CHICAGO’S DOGS START WITH CHICAGO’S NEIGHBORHOODS— welcome to Chicago history.

We cannot rescue our way out of an overpopulation crisis.
We have to change what happens before a dog ever reaches the doors of Chicago Animal Care and Control.

That means investing upstream and bringing access to spay/neuter, vaccines, microchips and essential resources directly into the neighborhoods driving the highest shelter intake.

This is bigger than animal welfare.

This is public health. Prevention. Civic infrastructure.

It keeps dogs with the people who love them, prevents unwanted litters, reduces pressure on Chicago Animal Care & Control and strengthens the communities we all call home.

The rescue community has the power to shape culture instead of simply reacting to it.

We can change the pipeline.
We can change the culture.
We can change rescue as we know it.

This November in Garfield Park, alongside the incredible team at Animal Balance, Salvation Army, and Alderman Walter Red Burnett, MCP launches M.A.S.H. — Mobile Access to Support & Health.

We’re bringing veterinary care directly into Chicago communities, transforming trusted neighborhood spaces into places of access, prevention and possibility.

Chicago dogs.
Chicago neighborhoods.
One city. One future.

MASHis DOG STRONG by design.
Our November launch goal is 130 Chicago dogs in three days, but this isn’t a one weekend clinic. MASH is being built as a recurring neighborhood prevention strategy, targeting the ZIP codes that are directly driving dog intake at Chicago Animal Care & Control.

The goal is for Chicago to lead in the prevention model nationally.

This is Chicago MASH, and we’re just getting started.

Welcome to the REVOLUTION of Rescue.

Love our humans. Love our dogs. Love our city.

We are looking for experienced HQHVSN veterinarians and technicians for PAID MASH positions.

Full day of back to back cases and unexpected after hours surgery…
but every wag, purr, and heartbeat
makes it worth it 🤍

—

some days drain you.
some days remind you of your purpose.

today did both.

—

running on caffeine, adrenaline,
and love for my patients 🐾

—

the best kind of exhausted.

—

a long day.
an emergency surgery.
a glass of wine with my favorite people (my AMAZING team who are like my family) after a very long day. 🍷💟

priceless.✨

—

there’s something beautiful
about ending a hard day knowing
you helped someone who couldn’t speak for themselves 🤍

—

11PM walks to the garage hit different
when you know you lived your purpose today.

—

tired eyes.
full heart.
wouldn’t change this life for the world. ✨

Vet med is changing fast, and depending on who you ask, there’s a very different explanation for why.

If you’ve opened, owned, or run a practice, I’d genuinely love your advice. What made it possible, and what should others know before trying to do the same?

Because I’ve seen a lot of takes lately about corporate growth, private equity and ownership… including the idea that fewer vets want the responsibility of owning.

But I don’t think it’s that simple.

Ownership is something I’ve seriously considered myself. Instead of jumping in, I chose a Medical Director role to learn the business side first...the parts most of us were never taught.

And if I’m being honest, I’m also in a season where I’m prioritizing my family. That absolutely influences how I think about risk, timing, and what ownership would realistically look like right now.

So when we talk about who is or isn’t owning…
Are we talking about desire? Or are we talking about access, timing, and sustainability?

Because those are very different conversations.

When buy-ins are financially out of reach, and corporate groups can make immediate cash offers… it changes the landscape, regardless of who wants to own.

So I’m curious...

For those who’ve done it, what advice would you give someone trying to make ownership a reality today?

Tagging a bunch of owners I admire.
We need more of you! 😍🫶🏻

The part of veterinary medicine people don’t always see…

The goodbyes.

In the last month, I’ve had to say goodbye to several patients I’ve known since they were puppies.
Families who have followed me through every chapter of my career…
Pets I’ve loved like they were my own.

And that’s the part that breaks us.

Because euthanasia isn’t just a procedure.
It’s a final act of love.

It’s choosing peace over suffering.
It’s being there when they need us the most.

But that doesn’t make it easy.

When you’ve watched them grow…
When you’ve helped them live long, happy lives…
When you’ve built that bond over years…

Letting them go is the hardest part of what we do.

We don’t just care for them.
We love them.

We cry with you.
We grieve with you.
And we carry them with us long after they’re gone.

They were never just patients.

They were ours too.

Until we meet again 🌈🤍
