POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

To be seen truly & fully in my art is what I have always wanted.

In a sense, I’ve always had that, but I wasn’t comfortable. I had a desire to control the outcome. Small mistakes were monumental, big ones ended my vision for the end of the work - this is why there aren’t many of those pieces.

My work now? Is me.
Colorful.
Secure.
Vibrant.
Blooming.
Ready to be seen.

This is one or the few photos I took through my own lense that day and possibly my favorite.

If you witnessed these pieces on display, whether we communicated or not, we met -
The pleasure was all mine.

Speaking a tiny bit on “whimsy” & why I’m painting buildings now.
This is my favorite piece of my newest works.
It looks like the page from a children’s book!
And as an author…. (yes! Me!)

…it’s quite fitting!

Painting:
“That’s all there is, there isn’t anymore.”
(I think - I still haven’t gone to check. You can acquire this piece to see for yourself though. 😏)
11” x 18”
Watercolor, pastel, gold leaf on paper.

“Sometimes music is a ‘background’ for drawing, but sometimes it becomes an essential part of the creation of work.”

Listen.
Pink + White (the song) by Frank Ocean?!
This painting is how that song looks from my perspective.

The giraffe is for all the weirdos out there.
And just because you’re weird, does mean you can’t light up a room.

Shine on, weirdo!
SHINE ON! 🦒

I’ll be telling you all which giraffe is me from that last portrait I posted - thank you for your patience.

I will say this!
Most of yall were wrong. 🤣
ILY! 🫶🏾

Our family portrait. 🦒🦒🦒
Later, I’ll explain how each giraffe represents each one of us.

But for right now?
I’m happy to be finished & will just enjoy the view for a while.

And the song?
One of the few the three of us ALL like -
Choosing one was more challenging than the piece itself.🤣

Can you guess which giraffe is me? 🤔

Giraffes are people too.
To me. It’ll make more sense eventually.
(maybe.)

A combination of things I like combined into 1.
(in the order that sounded best to me)

Giraffes.
Hair.
Hands.
Flowers.
And
Fashion.

Y’all.
Playing with the multi voiceover capability?

All my thoughts have space! 🤣

This one goes out to my childhood up bringing!

For clarity: Lying is always bad - just extra bad on Sunday.

Happy Sunday!
I am SO TICKLED!

First off, today is my birthday. 🎂
Will I have cake today? Maybe.

Okay so! I knew this piece would be some work before I began. 😅 This is the most giraffes I have put into a piece thus far. Am I halfway done? MAYBE! I’m doing things with paper I haven’t done before.

Things I’ve learned:
1. Tissue paper is challenging to work with when you paint it. It acts up!
2. Giraffes would be lovely in Queen Charlotte-esque wigs.
3. If I think I have ripped enough paper for a section, I haven’t. I need to rip more.
4. I would happily do this again.
5. A reminder: (for me) collage work is significantly more challenging (rewarding?) than painting.

Also, thank you @holistic_elements.sa & the ladies from the Vision Board party - this is what I’ve been doing with the leftover magazines. 😅

This is my vision board for 2025 - my first one!
After the first slide are the flower arrangements I’ve made so far this year, in order of their creation. And lastly, a sneak peek of my latest piece. 👀

Here’s to time passing with more beautiful moments from here on out, as I hope those moments are the most prevalent ones.

I promise to stay even more present.

Also, I’d like to leave you with some wise words to remember from this song:

“You can be a Wachijob again.”
- Vanessa Imani 💛

I am thankful for:
5624 miles
94 days
5 cities

This was the first year I entered art calls and participated in art exhibitions. While the numbers above are nowhere near what I want to be “regular” for me, I’d say it was an excellent start.

Pictured? Me, the pieces that did the traveling, some of their process shots, & a bonus.
