Despite many challenges, I managed to complete the full 80kms yesterday!

When I woke up and saw the air quality I knew I had to be okay with the fact that it might not be possible. That being said I think the full distance never really left my mind.

I got 50kms in at wood lake, and at that point my legs were still feeling strong but I was definitely feeling the effects of the smoke. I got driven back to Kelowna where I ran 25kms at the indoor track before they closed. That left me with only 5kms to get this thing done, and what better place to end this amazing day than @barnowlbrew !

Thank you so much to everyone who showed up and supported this cause. It was amazing to see everyone out there and even have a few people reach new distances for the first time. The people I have met through running and who continue to show up is a huge part of why I love this sport. The community is truly something else 🤍

Also want to give a big thanks to @play_kelowna @breadcokelowna @electralix @hersheyscanada and Mark Anthony Group for contributing to the event.

Most importantly, we have now raised $4,305 for the Desmoid Tumour Foundation of Canada @desmoidcanada . The foundation has been looking into research projects and is partnering with @dtrfoundation to fund them. 100% of this money will go towards research which is truly incredible.

So incredibly grateful for all of you. Thank you for showing up 🤍

Frisbee Ridge high above the valley near Revelstoke, almost above the smoke, perfect temperatures, a sprinkle of rain, Meadows bursting with wildflowers, 36.5 kms, 1200 meters vertical, and every kind of annoying fly possible. Nearly perfect day with great friends, but missing our two Matt’s. #headchasingbetter #beautifulbc🇨🇦

Today the Cross family tradition carries on to another generation. Sister Jodi was the first one to complete the Cross the lake swim at eight years old, sister Wendy and I did it in our 30s, all the nieces have completed it, and one nephew. Now the little cousins, including Tilly(6) completed kids category, kids shore splash.
Love this family tradition that was started back in 1970

The "Why" Behind Run For Rare

I wanted to share a little more about the story behind this event and why this cause means so much to me.

If you'd like to be part of the day, come join me on Sunday, August 16 for a loop (or five!) around Wood Lake.

Each loop is 17km and this is not a race, just a fun and challenging way to get outside and move together. Whether you run, ride, walk, cheer, or simply donate, every bit of support means the world.

RUN FOR RARE ❤️🏃

On Sunday, August 16, I'm taking on my biggest running challenge yet—80 km (50 miles) around Wood Lake—to raise $1,000 for the Desmoid Tumor Foundation of Canada.

I'm doing this for one of my closest friends, Athina, who was diagnosed with Desmoid Fibromatosis at just 15 years old. It's a rare disease that affects only 2–4 people per million, and I hope this run can help raise both awareness and funds for research.

This isn't a race, it's a community run. Whether you want to run one loop (17 km), a few loops, ride your bike alongside, hang out at the aid station, or simply come cheer, I'd love to have you there. I'll have my car set up as an aid station, making it easy to refuel, take a break, and spend the day together.

Wether you are able to join or not, I'd be incredibly grateful if you'd make a donation. Every dollar helps support research, education, and awareness for those living with desmoid tumors. If donating isn't possible, sharing this post is another amazing way to support the cause.

A few fantastic days in the books! 90 km gravel ride with Gabi, Darren and Matty. Then her Pickleball, Pool and Pizza birthday celebrations followed by a tough Silver Star Beowulf 36 km mtn bike ride - such an epic build and forest bathe for Canada Day 🇨🇦, and closed out our anniversary week-ish 💝.

I’m still trying to wrap my head around this...
This weekend, I crossed the finish line at the Okanagan Graveller as the Top Overall Woman, and somehow finished 9th overall alongside an incredibly strong field of men.

If you had told me a few years ago that I would be writing those words, I would have laughed. I never thought I could win. Not because I wasn’t capable, but because my own mind was always quicker to doubt than believe. Lately, I’ve been catching myself every time I think, “Who am I to do that?” or “Who am I to think I belong there?”

This race became another reminder that maybe the better question is...
Who are you not to?
Who are you not to chase the thing that lights you up?
Who are you not to believe in yourself before you have the proof?
Who are you not to take up space, show up fully, and see what you’re capable of?
I’m so incredibly grateful to everyone who made this event so special. Huge thank you to Jodi Cross, the race director, for creating such an amazing experience, and to every single athlete who endured the climbs, the grit, and the challenges of the day. Sharing the course with all of you was inspiring.
And for me...
I’m just really, really proud.
Not only because of where I finished, but because I showed up believing a little more than I used to.
Here’s to quieting the voice that says you can’t, and listening a little more closely to the one that whispers...

Day 13 the sun was shining for today’s adventure of 22.23km and 403 m of elevation.
The 430 year-old pub we stayed in was built for people under 6 feet tall as all the doorways were approximately 5’5 and the ceilings throughout the pub were 6 feet. We opened the doors to the pub and it was standing room only filled with all the locals from neighbouring villages. We were surprised this morning when we stepped outside, the fog was lifted and there was nothing in sight for miles and miles except for the pub.
The first half of our walk was uneventful and kind of boring however, as we were sitting on the grass near a sheep farm having a snack three local lads said there was a pub just around the corner so Wendy and Jodi’s ears perked up as they have an acquired taste for Guinness so we joined them. They asked why we were doing the C2C and they toasted mom and dad, Norman Colleen Cross. We had some good laughs then ventured on. The second half of our walk became more interesting, seeing a coffin bridge, it has a stone that prevents the coffin from sliding if they’re tired and need a rest. It had a great love story behind it. We wandered through some enchanted forest filled with the smell of wild garlic. Fortunately, Courtney remembered there was a detour we could take to Egton bridge which was stones crossing the river. We have settled in the town of Grosmont with the population of less then 100 people so we joined the locals in the only pub for dinner and caught up on the local gossip, their disappointment of how the wealthy have come in and bought up the farms to be used for cottage country.
One of the ladies we were sitting with said she was born there and asked where we were staying, apparently it used to be the funeral home and the upper doors are how they would put the caskets in. I asked her if that’s where the cooler was and she laughed and said there was no coolers back then.
The hats the 4 of us are wearing were made by a lady in Canmore representing the three sisters mountains in the Rockies of Canada.

Day 12 was a doozy 32.24 km with 1,221 m of elevation in the rain,wind and fog.
We started our day with a candle light breakfast being entertained with the best dry English humour. After bundling up we started as 4 but quickly became 3 as Jodi went off in the mist chatting with an Aussie at a pace the rest of us could not maintain. We knew there was a campground/coffee shop around halfway and she would probably be found there as her coffee addiction is real.
It might have been a beautiful view at the top of the many mountains we climbed but I have no clue as you could see nothing!
Court, Wendy and I arrived at the campground and found the washroom and quickly start to strip off wet cloths and use the hand dryer to dry our gloves etc when the door burst open and Jodi says wtf I have been waiting in the cafe why are you in here. It was 50 feet away but we couldn’t find it in the fog.
Wendy and I decide to join Jodi to tend to our blistered feet and court carried on. We enjoyed our hot chocolate only to find ourselves under the hand dryers in this bathroom. You guessed it, the door burst open and there is Jodi with her pack on, “wtf coffee break is over! “
We quickly found ourselves back in the rain,wind and fog with another 20ish km to go and more mountains to climb. It was slippery as Wendy fell on her ass in the mud but bounced up to quickly for me to get a photo. After the mountains we followed an old railway which was mentally tough as again no view, rain and wind and a pace that was gaining quickly on court as we could see her location. Wendy and I thought Jodi would let us fall back but she knew we could not be trusted on our own as we might of missed our dinner reservations. We arrived at a pub in the middle of nowhere, nothing else around thinking why did I need to book dinner reservations? We open the door and WTF it was packed,all neighbouring towns come to gather and party. We had our best traditional English meal of the trip in a pub that is over 400 years old with our rooms right above it.

Day 11 Danby whisk to Osmotnerey and then there was five.

21.3 km 403 m elevation

Forgive me father for I have sinned I followed my 3 sisters down a private drive to the backside of the monastery where we climbed the fence to enter free of charge unintentionally.
We were told today was going to be a boring day and yet it was one of our funnest days. Yesterday Bill the gentleman that told me to rub dock leaf on my leg ended up hiking with us most of the day. He was funny and gave us so many great suggestions, bought us lunch and connected Jodi with one of his contacts who owns an international bike touring company. We are now staying in a beautiful village of less than 1500 people. We have a long day tomorrow 34 km if we don’t get lost and a lot of climbing possibly in the rain as we now enter our third and final national park, North York Moors. We are sitting with our feet up the wall and we’ll be going to bed early. We have 81 km left and I already can say I will miss my sisters and niece when this trip ends as it has been amazing.
