Sadly we lost a queen so we had to introduce a new mated queen yesterday to keep the hive viable. Bee keeping magic if you ask me 🥰 these lil pollinators have taught us so much and they just love the dahlia’s so we leave some to open just for them 🐝

The queen is in the cage and gets introduced in a protected way so the colony gets adjusted to her pheromones and don’t attack her. She is currently a stranger after all. To prepare for adding a new queen we had to make sure there was no other queens. We saw one queen cell last week and when we opened the hive up to remove the queen cell the queen was hatching! There is such a low possibility of a virgin queen getting mated this late in the season so she was culled and we then introduced the new mated queen. The colony had a happy reaction! After we knew it was a good introduction, we tucked the cage between the frames and the worker bees will now spend the next few days chewing down the plug to release her. It’s that bee magic in action.

New Best Day ever!!! 🤣🥰 so grateful for nature and all she offers us and the friends that come to play too😍 Caught our first bee swarm, and met some new neighbour’s who let us in their yard to collect, and a fellow beekeeper drove by as we were leaving sharing he caught a swarm today too!! 🥳 🐝

We've been stuck on the boat in Puerto Don Juan with the wind blowing hard for 4 days. Yesterday it settled for a bit and the water calmed and we could see the bottom and see our anchor rode and kellick and the baby cornet fish that apparently are in love with our anchor line. We took an away trip in the dinghy to explore, burn some garbage and get pictures of our and our friend's boat. Of course, last night the wind came up and it really blew. Such is the life.

A very windy day today in Puerto Don Juan. From the feel of it, I would say 16 - 20 knots. No, we don't have a fancy wind gizzy. We tend to measure wind on the none, enough, too much, or better tie down the sheep scale. Certainly too windy to go out exploring in the dinghy. But at least the view is beautiful. @kasala.sv

We left home a year ago, sailed for 9 months to and around Baja and have been working for the past 3 to refit our gal with new sails & a rebuilt engine before heading to French Polynesia. We’re both commercial divers and always down for a fun dive in warm waters so let us know if you’re hanging in the Sea if Cortez this winter, we would love to meet ya!”
