HAPPY HERITAGE DAY SOUTH AFRICA 🇿🇦🖤

This past week, I found myself reflecting, looking at the women around me, the women I run with- as heavy as last week was, my heart is full of love & gratitude for them! I’ve felt so convicted and checked, asking what can I do better or be intentional about, to protect the phenomenal women I run with?!

Every woman deserves to run free! Not calculating the risk! Not looking over her shoulder! Not wondering if she’ll make it home. Not running in fear!!!!

Running has given me so much — joy, strength, healing, good health, community and a space where I feel safe and seen!

I’m grateful for the people who help make me feel safe, and most importantly my husband who creates the safest space for me always! But I don’t want safety to be something only some of us experience!!!! I want our running community to be a place where we look out for one another, check in, run together and speak up. Let’s keep each one another accountable, let’s do better running community!

I refuse to believe the lie! God is still in control! Our country is so beautiful and full of love and light! Fear is not our future! Our future is hope, safety & running free!

Not too long ago, my friend @cintaineschutte and I took an Uber home after a night out. She was dropped off first. As she got out, she looked at me, then at the driver, and said: “Laat weet sodra jy veilig is” (Let me know the moment you’re home safe.)

The driver then spent the next few minutes telling me how offensive her comment was and why he was going to give her a bad rating because of it.

Sitting alone in his car, I bit my tongue. I agreed. Because, ironically, I was in exactly the vulnerable position her comment was about. But what I wanted to scream was: CAN YOU FUCKING BLAME US!?

How can you live in this country and be so unaware of what it means for a woman to get into a stranger’s car at night? How can your offence at being perceived as a potential threat matter more than our very real fear of becoming a victim? I’m in the privileged position of being able to use private transport... and I still know this fear. So how much more often and to what intensity must most SA women who rely on taxis, public transport and public infrastructure have to navigate it?

My partner has watched me feel completely devastated by the news this week. He admits he doesn’t know what to say. And honestly… what can he say? The good guys don’t always know what to do. That’s what prompted this post as a recap for the good guys

Because there are things men can do. Small, everyday actions that say: I understand the world you have to navigate, and I’m going to do my part to make it feel a little safer.

So share this with the good guys. We need you active in this conversation.

The first Thirsti Half Marathon 2026 in Tulbagh 🥹⛰️🏃🏽‍♀️✨

Yesterday was more than a 21.1km. It was the early morning energy, the beautiful views, the incredible runners support along the way, the supporters cheering along the route, the little moments in between, and that feeling of being part of something bigger than yourself!

So yes… this Reel is long 😂 — but when there’s this much beauty, how do you leave anything out?!

Thank you to the special volunteers and Tulbagh community- you stole our hearts❤️ This was more than a run🙏🏼
