2025 - a mega year to reflect-on. I don’t really come into the New Year with goals and resolutions per se but rather I love using the end of the year as a retrospective on the 12 months prior. So much has happened, so quickly, sometimes it feels like I’ve lived ten-years packed into one. Many, many hard lessons learned but overwhelmingly more successes to celebrate. Lots of letting go, but even more letting in. This year I told myself I would “do less”, stay focused and simplify things. Somehow that led to me doing more than I could have imagined. I invested my time in the people who chose to invest their time in me. A few life-long dreams came true. Home ownership. Showing up as a role model and mentor to a young man. Becoming a certified yoga instructor. When I was in my 20’s I dreamed of having a career and life that would take me around the World and—a decade later—sometimes I spend so much time in the air that I feel like I live on a plane. There were some serious uppercuts thrown my way this year that could have derailed me in a big way, but I have learned that hardships are an opportunity to leverage change. They make the light at the end of the tunnel even more rewarding when you hit it and I am simply grateful for it all: the good, the bad, the ugly, the surreal. HNY 2026.

Just last month we had the pleasure to host an impassioned conversation entitled “Our Stories, Our Light: Illuminating the Caribbean Experience” at @cccadi. We were joined by our friends/collaborators/past zine features @treatise , @kigan.jo , @cybille_staude_tate and @chief_kiesh. Thank you to everyone who showed up to experience this conversation, and have a unique look through some of the CCCADI archives which were on display, and carefully passed around throughout the course of the event. Here are a few photos from the evening. 📸: @mario_ruben_

It was an honour attending this book launch. Nina‘s humility and appreciation for everyone in the room was felt. She was radiating warmth!

Nina & Osayi have created something unique using recipes to unite the Caribbean islands while also capturing history and stories from Nina’s perspective. This is so much more than a recipe book and I’m pleased to have received a signed copy.

Also..I don’t normally have rum or cow heel soup but guess who had both and enjoyed it 😅. I tried both cocktails with my favourite being the Passion Fruit Rum Punch featuring Saint Lucia’s Chairman’s rum. Both recipes can be found in the book by the way).

What a lovely time to be a Saint Lucian in the place. Thanks to @really_kristofer for putting me on to this!

massively grateful for ALL who showed up and sent love for the BK edition of KWÉYÒL/CREOLE. the event was sold out and it was so beautiful.

this was actually the first time i’ve seen Nina adress a predominantly Caribbean audience about our work on this book. 🥹 we explicitly talked about these readers as being centric to the book’s mission and it was truly moving to see them rally for this work and for Nina’s incredible tenure. i felt the spirit so much I had to ask for a rollcall at the start of our talk! everybody was present and accounted for hahaaaa i ain’t catching no strays by dropping flags here lol

much love and appreciation to our dear brother @kigan.jo and @spiribam for generously sharing @chairmansreserveofficial St Lucian rum (add it as a float to your pina colada, you’re welcome) 🍹it’s also featured in rhe Daddy’s Milk Punch recipe in the book.

thank you to @akwaabainns for hosting us, an iconic landmark of Brooklyn and always a space of distinct character, history, and warmth

@bembrooklyn is our local bookstore supporting this work and your destination for all things Black food culture, thanks for your facilitation and planning !

Nina brought the cryo vac’d cow heel soup up from New Orleans and thanks to our catering friends who helped round out delicious bites. s/o to @gabsoul_ for the tunes ! had my little baby goddaughter busting moves 🩵🩵

What a week! I had the most incredible time with my team in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. It happened to be my birthday right in the middle of our team meetings, so of course we celebrated! I feel so insanely lucky to work with these talented, kind and wonderfully special people.
