I recently read an article in a local Santa Barbara magazine about Kim Hoppe an up-and-coming busy new artist with a twist. Whenever I do a job and there is some matching vintage wallpaper several followers will comment about how cool the wallpaper was. Well, I drove to her studio in nearby Carpinteria, and we hit it off right away. She makes her own wallpaper with vivid colors and can make your bathroom or kitchen or even your house unique and custom with your flowers of choice or whatever you want. I love to promote artists, and she thinks Regrout is cool too, so how bad could she be? So, if you want to add more color and have something that is unique to match your style and tile please call Kim, you'll be glad you did and she's willing to travel! We need more art, especially now. Homes need art. Humans need art. I think if you don’t appreciate art or dogs, you are not to be trusted. I can’t really make art, but I love it and appreciate it and envy those who can. What a gift (or a curse, I’m sure, depending on the artist and the day). Those brains are something else.

I don’t remember where I first saw Kim Hoppe’s @kimhoppeee murals, but I remember reaching out right away. We want one for our office (but hey, we’re all slow to do nice things for ourselves, right?), and we’ve been trying to get them into some recent designs. Then, a couple months ago, I drove out to meet new clients, and boom…there’s one of her murals on their farm barn. (Serendipity in the Second pic from a visit today.)

So, here’s an upcoming design that Caroline is working on for some awesome clients: cork siding, first floor; wood and one of Kim’s murals on second floor. Still to be greater defined, but we’re getting closer to more art.

My business is CLOSED today in solidarity. ICE OUT FOR GOOD!!! I’m so happy to see so many businesses taking a stand. With so much frustration permeating, today is a chance to show our support!

It has been a heavy heavy time. I hope that you all find your voice. Your voice matters. There are many ways to help out. Volunteer, donate, get first response training, be a good neighbor, have open conversations, show up for the community.🫂

I do urge that we remember to take care of ourselves as well. The emotions are high and potent and can be easy to become overwhelmed and depressed. Do the things that bring you peace, openness, and happiness. I am so grateful for the friends in my life who truly value me as I value them. Life is so precious. Tell the people you love everything that’s on your heart. Surround yourself with people who don’t take your love for granted. ✨💛

Walking Arroyo Grande ☀️ ☕️

35 was hard 🌞 I faced new challenges living with bipolar and I struggled to stay balanced and healthy. I found a new psychiatrist and stopping drinking, which made it possible for me to travel and surf more than I ever have.

I brought my morning drawing practice into the studio and shared it publicly for the first time. I attended a residency, participated in group shows in Seattle, LA, and upstate NY, and took a big swing with a 10×10 foot painting in Pioneer Square.

I’m deeply grateful for my partner Jillian, my dearest friends, my gallerists, Sunday dinners, and the love that makes all of this possible.

36 hours in Los Angeles it’s crazy what you can do with a van a tank of gas a phone and a few old and new friendships bouncing between studios picking up bits of paper and notes from artists I’m preparing to show in 2026 walked around hunting dandelions with Wylie getting Jake to shoot photos seeing Bennet’s lights hunting for used surfboards…getting lunch with old friends talking about our kids and the random new middle-aged stuff we all seem to be juggling realizing how much both I and the city have changed since the last time around spending a quiet afternoon with both my very alive parents in their living room trying and failing three times to see the new PTA movie in VistaVision ending up instead at dinner next to Paul McCarthy while he talked about all the work lost in the Altadena fires meeting new people running into familiar ones and feeling that strange mix of exhaustion and gratitude that only LA can give heading back north now swapping out the city shoes for waterproof ones and trying to keep that same thread of California creativity moving through it all, knitting a sweater out of it that is not just for me to wear. ❤️✨✌️
