THIS WEEKEND

Visit Dalkeith Palace and Country Park this weekend and experience a wealth of creativity, perfect for getting to know your local creatives and stocking up on gifts everyone can enjoy!

This landmark Artist & Maker Market was first held last year and marks a significant shift beyond Visual Arts Scotland’s renowned programme of exhibitions, residencies and awards since launching over 100 years ago. Dalkeith Palace and Country Park will be transformed into a hotbed of creativity - visitors will explore and buy art, meet makers from across Scotland and beyond, and enjoy curated exhibitions in the historic venue just 7 miles from Edinburgh.

The market will also coincide with ‘The Space Between’ and ‘The Whole And The Hole’: two exhibitions taking place within the Palace itself.

The Space Between brings together 37 fine art and contemporary craft graduates for what will be our largest Graduate showcase to date, reflecting the wealth of exciting emerging practitioners and fresh wave of creative voices whose work speaks to both personal and collective experience. The work exhibited is both humorous and playful, thought provoking and provocative, exploring themes from outer space to personal identity.

The Whole And The Hole is our new exhibition of moving image works exploring the void of the hole. “The Whole and the Hole” proposes that art’s most radical gesture may be the simplest: the act of cutting through. A gesture that continues to open new ways of seeing, feeling, and imagining, not only the object before us, but the invisible forces and relationships it frames.

Visual Arts Scotland’s Artist & Makers Market will take place on the 10th and 11th of October 2026. With our coinciding exhibitions opening on the 8th and running through til the closing of the market on the 11th.

Opening times: 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM daily

Public car parking: £4 per day
Entry: Free

A proper thank you to everyone who came on Tuesday night for the opening of the Hope Collection, and to mark two years of Fodder in Hampstead. It was a lovely evening, and fab to see all of the work come together for the first time.

If you couldn’t make it, there’s still time. The exhibition is open in store until this Sunday, 13 September. Worth seeing in person if you can.

The full collection is live to shop online too, with 20% of every sale going to Hope Unlimited Charitable Trust throughout September.

Link in bio to shop, or pop in and see us before Sunday.

Last night was the Private View of The Hope Collection at @shopfodder in Hampstead and it was so lovely. Seeing all the beautiful pieces in real life was wonderful and they all sit together so beautifully as a collection. It was also great to meet a lot of the makers - such a talented bunch. I collaborated with Fodder to bring about this exhibition but I do want to say that I should take no credit. Luci from Fodder has made this happen - she is so supportive of independent craft, particularly ceramics. We need more people like her! If you are anywhere near Hampstead in the next week, please go and see the exhibition, it’s on until the 13th. It was great to see the red dots increasing last night so you might have to be quick if you want to make a purchase! 💙 Also don’t forget the fabulous bags illustrated by Emma Cantley - *the* bag to be seen with. 💙

Behind the Hope Collection

Before these pieces reached our shelves, they began here, in studios across the country, in the hands of the makers who dreamed them up. Clay wedged and thrown and slab-built, glazes mixed and tested, an idea slowly becoming an object.

There's something about seeing where the work is made that makes each piece mean more. A glimpse into a few of the studios behind the collection, all responding to the same single word: hope.

The Hope Collection is live to shop now, with 20% of every sale going to Hope Unlimited Charitable Trust throughout September. Shop via the link in bio, or come and see it in store until 13 September. Private View from 5pm this evening.

Another wee painting. This time it’s of a lovely stoneware mug made by Kirsty Anderson, that I bought at Pittenweem Arts Festival last year. 10cm x 10cm. Open acrylics on wooden board.

Introducing the Hope Collection, in collaboration with I Have This Thing With Ceramics.

To mark our second year in Hampstead, we invited eleven of our makers to respond to a single brief: Hope. What each of them made of it was entirely their own.

Some responded to the world as it is now, others looked to their children, to the first signs of spring, to the simple act of raising something up and giving it visibility. The result is a very limited collection, each piece made specifically for this exhibition.

To accompany it, we have created a limited edition Hope Tote. Illustrated by the wonderful Emma Cantley of @mainlybreakfast - available to pre-order now.

20% of every sale from the Hope Collection throughout September goes to Hope Unlimited Charitable Trust, supporting work that challenges hate and helps build a more inclusive society.

In a world that feels increasingly uncertain, finding hope through craft, through the hand of the maker, feels more important than ever.

Sign up to the waitlist via the Hope Collection link in bio to be first to preview and shop the collection online.

The exhibition opens in store with a private view on Tuesday 8 September, 5 to 8pm. Join us for a glass to celebrate.

Just home from great weekend visit to the @pittenweemartsfestival and time to find somewhere for a couple of new pots to nestle into. The stunning black glaze vase and small bowl are from the lovely @kjastudio they are cuddling up to @ruthkingceramics and @ruth_elizabeth_jones and @andrewpceramics all very different styles of ceramics but all amazing artists.
The tall necked vase is from #pagepottery a Pittenweem based potter. Inspiration overload I can’t wait to get back on the wheel.
