I went to @creepiecon and had SO MUCH FUN!!!!! Overstimulated and excited for everything 🤣😂. It was my first horror convention!!!! I had a different outfit in mind planned, but then combined it with the other outfit and my outfit became Wednesday Freddy Ghostface Barbie 💁‍♀️. Barbie because of my smiles and blonde hair 😂. Next convention, I’ll dress up more lol. My @drmartensofficial gave me the workout in the huge convention center, and the heat about killed me 🤣😂. Can’t wait for next year! #horror #horrorcommunity #conventions #wednesdayaddams #freddykrueger

It has been 2 months since I went to watch Audra McDonald in Gypsy on Broadway and I still feel like it was a dream that was too good to be true. Being mere feet from Audra as she sang the stage down was one of the greatest experiences of my life and I will cherish it forever. I was literally right in front of her when she came down to the edge of the apron while performing Rose’s Turn, and I looked straight up at her with tears rolling down my neck. The line in Rose’s Turn “Well, someone tell me when is it my turn?” always hits me, a late bloomer, really hard. I think about that line quite a lot, especially after seeing the show.

Just being there collectively with the audience, feeling every note, hearing people’s gasping sobs in the moments of silence was addicting. I felt so many different things while watching the show—seen, validated, encouraged, scared, and overwhelmed with joy. Those of you in the NYC area should definitely try to see it in the next week before it closes because it is 100% worth it. The whole cast was incredible.

Prints are available at the Inprnt link in my bio!

My dearest darlingest Siuan Sanche, daughter of the river, clever as a pike, strong as the tides, water itself 🌊

There is a lot to be said about Sophie Okonedo’s gorgeous portrayal of this character. I didn’t want to leave a huge long caption here and reactivate my pain over this character, as I have no emotional energy left to discuss her fate, but she really meant a lot to me. Yes, I know what happens to Siuan in the books, but the show’s take on things was over the top violent and downright traumatizing. Regardless of what happens to the OG character, brutalizing black bodies onscreen for shock value is unacceptable and irresponsible at this point. There are ways to write characters out without going to such extreme lengths.

I started watching The Wheel of Time because of Sophie, and loved the feeling of seeing a beautiful black queer lady in a place of high power on a high fantasy show. Sophie ate this role up! Every choice she made, every expression, every gesture, was so intentional and beautifully executed. I know she will probably never see this, but I want to be more creative because of her, so I have her to thank for that 💙

Part 2 Elphaba in full Wicked Witch mode.

Ngl I’m scared for this year with the current state of things, but at least we have Wicked: For Good and Cynthia’s “No Good Deed” to look forward to 😅

“Come with me. We’ve done it, we’re okay now.” 💚

I love how in interviews for this film, @cynthiaerivo has talked about her younger self, and (as Elphaba) bringing her younger self with her. I mean, if you saw the movie, you also know that there was a very literal version of that depicted as well. It was an extremely powerful moment, and I just wanted to do a little something to honor that, the connection between the younger and older self. I have been trying to access and heal that younger self, and it is one of the many things that really left me fighting to stifle my sobs while watching this movie.

There aren’t words for how obsessed with Brandy’s Cinderella as a child. I watched the VHS over and over again, sometimes sitting right up close to the television. Seeing someone who looked like me, playing the princess, and living happily ever after was so powerful. That’s why it was such a treat to see her as Cinderella again with Paolo Montalban’s Charming, in Descendants: Rise of Red. I am not a Descendants fan or anything, but when I heard the news that Brandy and Paolo would be back, it felt like I was 6 years old all over again! Though their scenes were few, I enjoyed every minute of them!

I went to watch the new Little Mermaid movie over the weekend and loved it! I got chills over my entire body the moment Halle came onscreen as Ariel. The new songs were so much fun, the colors vibrant, the new songs fun, and the black girl magic was off the charts! Someone on twitter pointed out that this movie gives little girls a black queen and a black princess, just like the live action Cinderella from my childhood (featuring Brandy, Whitney Houston, and Whoopi Goldberg) did. I’m so excited that young black girls have this movie, these characters, and actors to get excited about, as I did with Cinderella ✨🧜🏾‍♀️✨
