Earlier this year, I competed in the Miss Miami Gardens Scholarship Competition and won the Best Interview Category!

That kindled something in me that pushed me to move forward.

I jumped into pageantry on a whim last year to challenge myself out of the limitations I'd grown to believe defined me.

If 2018 Lynn could see me now, she'd be shaking. Because who was I to dare to believe that I possessed anything of value, beauty, or significance.

Doing things that you feel unqualified for will make you feel foolish until you realize that it takes a level of folly to fully walk in your spiritual identity.

The kind of folly that looks at every historical piece of evidence that establishes how your story should conclude- except -in the place of the words "The end" - to flip the script and write a different destiny.

I'd tell 17 year old Lynn, that your identity is not assigned to you by the compelling voices of your environment and experiences.

Your lived identity is the sum of your bold belief and your audacious actions.

Special Thank you to Miss Miami Gardens Org Executive Director, Dr. Niesha Mack Massingill @abeautifulzeta and Director Kennedy @itskennediadriana for coordinating an amazing display of Culture, Performance and Beauty.
Miami Gardens is in good hands because of you both. 🙌🏽

And Thank you @queendelpha for believing in and pushing girls like me. It takes a special kind of coach who will believe in you so much that you start believing in yourself 💖

He almost refused. Happy Belated Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day has always been his thing. Every single year, he never misses a chance to intentionally celebrate us and express his love in a meaningful way. But this year looked a little different.

For the first time in our history, I was traveling, fully focused on my students and celebrating the announcement of our grandson. Still, he made sure I felt loved. Early Sunday morning, he woke me up to a personalized love song with our story and my name in it. On Friday, on our way to Tampa, he gifted me 50 roses, which you probably saw on my timeline.

So on our drive back to Miami today, I wanted a moment to celebrate him.

We pulled into 7-Eleven, and I asked him to get out and dance with me. He suddenly couldn’t find the song. He almost refused. He was clearly embarrassed as everyone cheered him on. Completely us.

Thankfully, Lynn, Theresa, and Nahomie were right there, cheering him on and making the moment even more unforgettable.

My first time dancing at a gas station.
Spontaneous. Joyful. Memorable.

Love doesn’t always happen in candlelit rooms.
Sometimes it happens at 7-Eleven.

I promised them a private dinner with FIU President Jeanette M. Nuñez if they’d be my backup dancers. 💃🏽🕺🏽

Then came that moment…
In my mind I heard, “Wait a minute, Dr. Smith…”

That’s when they realized this was the extended extended version of the song.
Extra dance moves immediately activated.

Meanwhile, I was having way too much fun.
I couldn’t hold in my laughter, but they hung in there.

They danced. I promised.
Now let’s see what strings I can pull. 😏

So who has @fiupresident number?
I mean her cell number. 😄 #nabafiu #naba

😩 Being a Christian is not for the weak.
It’s not about religion or tradition—it’s about a relationship with God.
It means choosing love over hate, grace over pride, and truth over comfort.
It’s about learning to love others the way Jesus loves us—fully, sacrificially, and without condition.

This walk isn’t always easy.
But each day, by God’s strength, we strive to grow—to become more like Christ and less like our old selves.

My journey so far has been deeply rewarding.
I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

« Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. »
