Crafting Design Futures: Mexico

Four designers come into dialogue with four Mexican craft traditions, working alongside master artisans as collaborators.

From Barro Negro and copal wood carving to Taxco silverwork and Totonac fibre weaving, each collaboration explores the knowledge embedded in material, making and tradition.

The result is co-authorship across culture, discipline and generations.

Through our partnership with Years of Culture, we’re building a global network of designers and artisans who exchange knowledge, challenge perspectives and form relationships that inspire a new generation of design.

Developed by Design Doha as part of Years of Culture, in collaboration with Design Week Mexico.

The Residency Edit | Shirine Sbaiti @limb.00

Shirine Sbaiti transforms the human body into sculptural objects that sit somewhere between art, design and everyday ritual. Across ceramics, lighting and functional pieces, limbs become structure, gestures become ornament, and familiar objects become quietly human.

Drawing from themes of intimacy, memory and connection, her practice blurs the boundary between sculpture and design, inviting us to reconsider the emotional relationships we have with the objects around us.
