“Laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting before you get tired.” -Jules Renard

I wish I could say Lu was the textbook student-athlete, but I can’t. She had her challenges, many of which drove me to a breaking point as a coach. But her ability to prepare is second to none, and you know you are getting whatever she had to give at practice. When she drilled, she did it not for completion, but understanding. She worked at such a high level in training that to this day I don’t believe I’ve ever seen her go all out in the hammer throw.

Her intentionality is her talent, and with that she has one of the strongest minds that I have ever had the privilege to coach. It seemed as though the bigger the stage, the better she competed. This was all validated by her breaking the school record at NCAA Nationals on what could be considered a safe throw in competition.

With history made and records broken, I hope Lu continues to find the courage to be intentional in this sport, as she’s inspired a generation of throwers like her who may not be the biggest or strongest to believe in themselves. Either way, I know she will find fulfillment in what she puts her mind to. In the meantime, congrats on making HISTORY:

All-American (Second-Team)
5x AE Champion (3x Weight, 2x Hammer)
AE Conference Record Holder (Weight Throw)
Millrose Games Champion (Weight Throw)
Penn Relays Hammer Champion (Collegiate)
Dominican National Record Holder (Hammer, Weight)

Congratulations to Coach Abel and Ludith Campos for also advancing to NCAA’s in Eugene! Pretty special that we competed against each other as athletes, and now both coach at our alma mater. Our programs, and especially these two, have competed hard and pushed each other to new heights! More to come from the @americaeast throwers in the coming years as well…#midmajorpride #takeyourbudgetand 🤫

Congrats to Ludith Campos on making history by becoming UAlbany’s first ever national qualifier in the women’s hammer. She threw 62.65m/205’ 6”, which is a new school record as well as a Dominican Republic national record. A true competitor, she came in seeded 27th, and finished 8th overall. Great job Lu!
