**LINK IN BIO FOR VINYL PRE-ORDER - 300 COPIES ONLY** Lebanese composer, producer, sound artist and DJ Jana Saleh presents I Only Have Eyes For You, her debut album. I Only Have Eyes For You is a single, continuous 32 minute composition divided into seven sections. All instruments and programming were conceived and performed by Saleh, and the album is built around a vocal sample from Mohamed Abdel Wahab’s “Gafnouhu Allam Al Ghazal”,with lyrics by the Lebanese poet Bechara Al Khoury (al-Akhtal as-Saghir), first heard in the 1933 Egyptian musical film al-Warda al-Baida (The White Rose). The title of “Gafnouhu Allam Al Ghazal” names both its subject and its form: ghazal, the classical Arabic poetic tradition devoted to beauty, longing, and the pain of separation. Following a brilliant first night last night, King Ayisoba returns this evening for the final night of his residency - his first shows here in 8 years, joined again by Ayuune Sule! The shows celebrate Ayisoba’s new Adrian Sherwood produced album Pure Confusion, bringing his raw, high-energy kologo sound back into the venue after past seminal OTO performances. Supported by his band of Frafra musicians, with their mesmerizing infectious beats, high energy dances and singing, King Ayisoba provides captivating stage performances with rhythms going straight to the heart and inner pulse with a touch of repetitive trance. TONIGHT: KING AYISOBA: TWO-DAY RESIDENCY - DAY ONE W/ AYUUNE SULE + MAIS UM DISCOS (DJ) We’re excited to welcome the mighty King Ayisoba with his full band back to Cafe OTO for his first shows here in nearly eight years. Often called the King of Kologo, Ayisoba is one of Ghana’s most singular and forceful performers, carrying the two-string kologo into a sound that moves between Frafra tradition, hiplife, punk, dancehall, reggae, folk music and even techno. His voice can shift from deep, raw, rasping cries to soft high singing, with the kologo sitting almost as an extension of the body - direct, percussive, insistent and impossible to separate from the physical charge of the performance. Born near Bolgatanga in north-east Ghana, Ayisoba began playing kologo as a child and has since developed a practice that moves between ancestral forms, urban Accra, political urgency and ecstatic live performance. His songs address personal, social and political life, speaking against injustice, corruption and greed while opening out into something communal, volatile and deeply alive. Across the two nights he is joined by Ayuune Sule, one of Ghana’s leading kologo players and a long-time member of Ayisoba’s band. Sule’s warm, velvet-toned voice offers a striking counterpoint to Ayisoba’s gravelled force, moving through kologo power, West African soul, hiplife and northern Ghanaian song forms. DJ support on both nights will be from Mais Um Discos @maisumdiscos To mark the residency, we’re also spotlighting King Ayisoba’s OTOROKU digital release, Live at Cafe OTO - nearly two hours recorded here in September 2014 on his second visit to the venue, joined by Zea, Lion and Wanlov the Kubolor.
