Studio time - We started the Ceramics Diploma at the @citylit studio in September 2019, we finished in December 2022. A place of learning, developing our skills and questioning our art, this studio became like a second home, a place of refuge, solace and happiness. There were huge amounts of laughter and sometimes tears, but ultimately a beautiful and safe environment where we came together as a group that are now about to graduate.

This exhibition represents some samples of work done on the Ceramics Diploma course at City Lit.
The Ceramics Diploma course is a two year course which trains students to be professional ceramicists within the field on contemporary ceramic practice.
The course has been running at City Lit since the last 1980’s, and over that time the course has developed a strong reputation for the quality of the work produced.
Many of the students over the years, have either gone on to do further study at MA level, or have set up in professional studio practice.
The course is intensive, and covers all aspects of ceramics, as well as glaze technology, art history and ceramic contextual studies.
The course is taught by a group of eight teaching staff, many of whom are leading ceramicists in the UK.
This particular group of students started the course in September 2019, but due to the pandemic, the course had to be suspended for a significant period of time.
The practice within the group is diverse, and follows each individual students journey throughout the course.
This student group are now about to graduate and their main exhibition will be held at -
The Department Store - in Brixton @dn_brixton
from the 22nd - 25th of February 2023

Tales from the Kiln
@citylit 11th - 29th January
.
The work of 16 creatives coming to the end of the City Lit ceramics diploma. Disrupted by the pandemic, these learners have been studying with us since September 2019 discovering or in some cases rediscovering, their passion for ceramics.
Each exhibitor brings different life experiences, careers, cultures and challenges to be overcome; tales that inform their work. The kilns, which fire round the clock at City Lit, hold the possibilities of joy or anguish for each maker.
Learners wait impatiently for the kilns to cool and reveal what lies within. Each exhibitor shows a glimpse of where they are in their practice now, and where they're heading..
.
Our final show will be held at The Department Store Brixton from 21st - 26th February 2023.
Downstairs, The Department Store, 248 Ferndale Road, London, SW9 8FR
