🌱 Come along to our Branch Meeting focussed on Climate Justice, followed by a Summer Social at The Hidden Gardens, Tramway, Glasgow 🌱 Sunday 16 August 11.30am–1.00pm Branch Meeting 📍The Boiler House, The Hidden Gardens, Tramway, Glasgow We’ll be joined by Equity Councillor and Green New Deal Equity’s Green New Deal Network member @marla_k.d to discuss how performers can help build a greener industry. We’ll explore campaigns for sustainable workplaces, making our union more environmentally responsible, and standing in solidarity with workers fighting for a just transition. We’ll also be having a discussion about pencilling and members’ experiences of being held for potential work during the casting process. We want to hear from members about where pencilling happens, how often it leads to work, how long people are kept under a pencil, and whether being pencilled has ever meant turning down other work. Your experiences will help inform Equity’s developing work around contractual rights in casting and campaigning for pencilling to end. 1.00–3.00pm Summer Social After the meeting, stick around, meet fellow members and enjoy some summer socialising. We can't guarantee the weather but we can make sure the snacks are great!!! Not a member? You’re very welcome too! Come along, meet us, find out more about Equity, and hear why being part of a union matters for performers and creative workers. Remember, a union is only as strong as its members. Being active, getting involved and sharing your experiences helps us build a stronger voice for performers and make real change across our industry. Come along, have your say, meet other members and find out how you can get involved. Promotional graphic reading “Equity Glasgow and West of Scotland — Branch Meeting and Summer Social.” The event takes place Sunday 16 August, with the branch meeting from 11.30am to 1pm and the summer social from 1pm to 3pm. The background shows a green garden path and the chimney of a brick industrial building.

🌿“If we define intelligence as the ability to solve life’s challenges through adaptability, then plants may be among the most intelligent beings on Earth.” ~ inspired by Michael Pollan 🌿 This thought completely shifted the way I look at the living world. We often associate intelligence with speed, language, memory or problem-solving in ways that resemble ourselves. But plants ask us a different question. What if intelligence is not about thinking faster, but about adapting? About finding countless ways to respond to changing conditions, to survive, to transform, and to keep creating life? Plants have endured two mass extinctions. They communicate, cooperate, adapt and continuously reshape their environments, not through dominance, but through extraordinary resilience. This became one of the starting points for Sensorial Symphonies. What if we measured intelligence a little differently? Perhaps we would begin to recognise wisdom in forms of life we have overlooked for far too long. 🌱 Dancer Marla King Music Sergei Rachmaninov 🌱 Sensorial Symphonies 15th August Govanhill International Festival Glasgow 🌱

We had a lovely last couple of days teaching at @tripspace_ this week! It was lovely meeting new dancers and reconnecting with special people. From both this week, and our beautiful experience the week before with @theplayground_rambert , it was inspiring to see dance artists continuing to remain dedicated towards their practices despite stark challenges. It’s so hard at the moment to maintain momentum with dancing. There is a lack of jobs, a lack of funding and, more broadly, a lack urgency to prioritise large swaths of our freelance workforce. Dancing is such a healing art form and I felt very privileged to get to share our mornings with some wonderfully generous people and exceptionally talented dancers. It’s also been gorgeous working at @tripspace_ - which is such a vital and special part of the dance ecology in London. I reflected fondly on first going there for workshops with @mcmillanleila over 10 years ago and Montse has been brilliantly determined to keep spaces open for artists so passionately. Im reflecting a lot today on the importance of joy, whilst we’re all in the thick of it. I hope we will be able to return soon to London soon! Thanks to everyone who came to dance with us! @artistangusphillipshigham @martha_tribe02 @auroracasatori @ozzyb.c @petebutler19 @orlahardie @alexdelabastide @gravelly_ciar @marla_k.d @juansanchezplaza @anneli_dance22 @lisa.m.r01 @tommi_sutton @annaa.smith @haditadelpulque @tabby_seago @thekneesdanniitan and so many others!

✨ One Friday. Three studios. Countless moments of magic. ✨ There is something so special about watching a room full of artists arrive as strangers and leave feeling like a community. Every Playground reminds us why we do this – to move, create, connect, take risks, cheer each other on and simply enjoy making together. A HUGE thank you to every single person who came, danced, played, watched, laughed, sweated, supported and filled the studios with such incredible energy. You are what makes The Playground what it is. 🫶 Massive love to our wonderful choreographers and musicians, who created spaces where everyone could feel free, brave, supported and inspired. Thank you for sharing your creativity, generosity and artistry with all of us. ❤️🎶 @richard.chappell.dance @marla_k.d @jaimee.jett @itchdance @audiophiliacuk @adriandelarroyo @louislaportecomposer 👏👏👏 And finally, thank you to our little but mighty Playground team holding down the fort Friday night, Simone, Mary & Jaimée. 💛 Thank you for all the work, care, organisation, filming, cheering people on and making these evenings happen behind the scenes @ms_stackhouse @themovingtheatrelab @jaimee.jett 😘 Until next time… keep creating, keep supporting one another and keep playing. ✨ 💛 #ThePlaygroundLDN #movementmatter #DanceCommunity #CreativeCommunity #Improvisation
