This week on Welcome to the Music Lounge, hosts Andrew Schiffman and Perry Turcotte sit down with former MTV executive Marta Ravin for another incredible trip behind the scenes of the TRL era.

Ever wonder how some of TRL’s most unforgettable moments came to life?

Marta shares the story of pitching none other than Jack Black for an epic dance-off with choreographer Wade Robson. It was the kind of wild, creative idea that made TRL must-see television.

Did Jack Black say yes? Did the dance battle actually happen?

You’ll have to tune in to hear the full story and get a behind-the-scenes look at the creativity, spontaneity, and magic that defined MTV during its golden years. Link in bio. #mtv #trl #jackblack #waderobson #britneyspears

✨New Episode! ✨

@MartaRavin is an Emmy-nominated executive producer and one of those rare people who can walk you through a high-stakes production crisis in the funniest way possible.

She’s worked across some of pop culture’s most recognizable shows, from #TotalRequestLive to Love & Hip Hop, and built global hits like #LongIslandMedium (14 seasons!). But what’s remained constant is her creative instinct and her ability to evolve with new technology while continuing to produce premium, culture-shaping content.

On this episode of The Media Machine, Johanna Salazar and I sit down with Marta as she breaks down what it really takes to balance comedy and producing at the highest level: reading the room, trusting timing, and knowing how to make a project work skills rooted in human instinct that no technology can replace.

Marta also shares what she learned from #JonStewart about leadership, resilience, and not giving up - lessons that clearly stayed with her as she moved forward with her career.

What emerges is someone with a sharp authority in recognizing truth, authenticity and most importantly - trusting your instincts.

This episode is a masterclass of creating content, and producing at the highest level in a rapidly evolving media landscape.

@MartaRavin is an Emmy-nominated executive producer and a leading authority on live television and the sale of original IP.

She has stories galore including sprinting through Times Square with @tomcruise , holding court with @madonna and @50cent Cent, and helped shape a serious chunk of pop culture producing everything from “Total Request Live” to “Love & Hip Hop”, and selling global hits like “Long Island Medium” (14 seasons!).

But the origin story? Even better. Cue the 90s

On this Thursday’s episode of The Media Machine, Johanna Salazar and I chat with Marta as she shares the kind of behind-the-scenes stories you truly cannot make up - equal parts hustle, chaos, and comedy.

She also earns a historic first for this podcast: she is officially the first guest to require her own BEEP!
Yes. It happened.
Yes, it was deserved.
And yes… you will wish you were there.

And because we like to keep things current, she gets real about AI: how she’s actually using it, what excites her, and what she’s very confident it will never replace the talented people in our business.
