Thai Diner, on the corner of Mott and Kenmare Streets in Nolita immediately caught our eye with its bodega-like metal awning covered with colorful depictions of its American diner classics that are served with a Thai twist, including Thai tea babka French toast and their popular Thai disco fries. Founded by chefs Ann Redding and Matt Danzer in 2020, it has received many accolades for its unique and delicious food. The spacious 1950s-diner-meets traditional-Thai-hut interior designed by Ann’s sister @mayredding is transportive, evoking the culture of Thailand with bamboo accents, rattan walls, nostalgic signage, vintage crystal and chrome chandeliers and giant tropical plants. Glass blocks along the base of the bar illuminate handmade wood barstools, which are anchored to stunning onyx floor tiles. (Swipe left for interior photos 2-4). Today is also #NationalDessertDay and Thai Diner serves amazing desserts including its adorable Jim Henson-esque Monster Cake, which rotate in flavor & have beady edible eyes. SIAM is published today. What a time we had making this book, and what a book it is! It is truly a love story to Thailand, its people, the culture and the food – oh, the food! Jungle curries, dried salty squid, spicy snacks to accompany a punchy cocktail, smoky street food treats. And the wonderful stories of the people behind the recipes, @kplunketthogge has written a cookbook that you’ll want to read from cover to cover. All photographed on location in Thailand, with a fabulous team and so many new friends helping us, and keeping us fed and watered throughout ❤️🇹🇭🔥

May once again led us to a great spot- Aburi Ishida for kushiyaki grilled skewers and unique Japanese pasta dishes. This is a neighborhood staple that is crowded every night with Japanese expats and locals on a cute backstreet of Thong Lor.
We had their clam pasta that was reminiscent to me of the vongole that is basically the national dish of Provincetown, but with an added creamy truffle flavor.
The craziest skewer was cherry tomatoes stuffed with avocado and covered in Parmesan which tasted like way more than the sum of its parts.
I could see myself returning often to this counter to go deeper in their extensive menu, as May already has.

When the worlds of Fine Dining & Art Collide: AngloThai x Oterawat featuring Exmoor Caviar 🖤🖤🖤

…

Curated by our interior designer May Redding with Thai multidisciplinary artist Terawat Teankaprasith (Oterawat) - whose work has appeared in Vogue Thailand and with Hermès - the project brings together craft and the spirit of the restaurant.

The collaboration features five bespoke artworks inspired by British seasonal produce, the Aubretia house wine created with Nibiru, and the brass lighting developed with Pern Baan in Chiang Mai.

Now on display in the restaurant, the works are also available as a limited run of fine-art prints, available to purchase via the link in bio.

The evening started with an art event in the sedate section of #SongWat area which is on the other side of the #ChaoPhraya River. It’s not exactly a commercial tourist area; think more like Bayridge in Brooklyn, predominantly residential and quiet AF that we got scolded outside with others smoking cigs. I didn’t #carspot anything noteworthy unless this 3-wheeled #AlloyScooter with a #sidecar counts. The art was cool, the #Singha beers chilled just right, but it was actually the small building that impressed me most. I was especially struck by the odd fenced-in-cage-structure on the 2nd floor rear terrace. My curious assumption was confirmed hours later: it’s a pigeon cage. Why? Don’t ask, don’t know. I just imagined a pickleball solo court with LED lighting. This could be a cool apartment!🏸 We hailed a #Grabcar over to the Chinatown section in #Sampanthawong to search for a #dispensary which is ironically legal now. Afterwards, we crept through a dark abandoned dock near the river, watching one LED-outlined #luxuryferryservice after another, navigating through the dark glassy river currents in #Bangkok, #Thailand . #motorbike #motorscooter #scooters #scootersofbangkok #scootersofinstagram #art #artopening #videoart #thaiart #thaiartwork #thaivideoart #riverferry #riverferries #rivertraffic #indica #newfriends #oldfriends #str8tnotgayfriend

The Most Exciting Opening Of The Summer Serves The World’s Best Chicken Fingers, *that’s* the headline here, about how team Uncle Boons (RIP) and Thai Diner—specifically chefs Ann Redding and Matt Danzer (and Leo!) (and sister May with the design!)—just absolute killed it with their spanking new spot on Mott, Mommy Pai’s. There are four varieties of fingers, there are eight types of dipping sauce, there are some very good sandwiches and sides, there are thick and fruity drinks, there’s a nifty Mommy Combo Set deal, there’s freaking soft serve and tapioca donuts for crying out loud! It’s PERFECT. Go before the swells get back from their beach houses imo. Full $20 Dinner report now up at Hell “Get Your Official $20 Dinner Sticker” Gate link in bio
