We hope you’re feeling refreshed after unplugging from your busy work life and taking time for YOU! Lois’ talk last month was just what we needed to ease us into ‘do not disturb’ mode whilst we spend time with family and friends, and to just enjoy the quiet — and breathe.

Whilst we’re all getting back into the swing of things, remember Lois’ talk from last month. Make sure you’re listening to your mind and your body, follow what feels right, and remember to step back when things feel like too much! Here’s to a cracking 2020! Photos: @_marywt

Yesterday we kicked off 2020 with our annual vision and strategy day, an opportunity for everyone to feed into the vision and growth plans for the year. We decided on one word to set us up for this year - EVOLVE. Today we’ve already gotten started on growing and getting stronger as a team. 🔥

2019 has been the best one yet, so if you were a part of it (however big or small) then thank you, seriously!!! 🔥 I started the year in a bit of a negative headspace and I pushed myself to take every opportunity I could to improve where I was. Since then it’s just got better and better, from launching Barry Magazine to graduating with a first, to organising the first ever Barry Pride & starting a local networking event, to meeting all the amazing people I have this year! It feels like the start of something. Hello 2020 👋

Which way to the beach? 🤔😂 We had tonnes of fun at our team activity today with @bouldersuk. It’s great to get away from our desks, even if our hands are aching now.

Melin Edomwonyi has conquered self-doubt, and a fear of failing, she is the head of production at @illustratedigital and is this weeks Warrior Women Wednesday.

Tell us about yourself?
I’m a designer currently head of production at Illustrate Digital. I love being a Cardiffian. I believe in the power of communities. To quote @CreativeMorning “I believe in giving a damn”.

What is something you’ve conquered?
My self-doubt…. my lack of self-belief… The constant fear of failing…. Being a foreigner in the UK… Being a woman in the digital/tech industry…Being a woman of colour in the creative industry.

Where are you at your most creative?
When I work with people I love who care about what they do.

Do you have a fave Cardiff spot in which to work?
If I feel the need to get away from my desk to you will find me by the sea. In Cardiff, the closest I can get to the ‘sea’ is Cardiff Bay, where you’ll find me by the water, working with a latte to hand.

Who are your Warrior Women?
Oh so many!! My ‘shero’ and writer @Meltemarikan_official, #CreativeMornings founder Tina Roth-Eisenberg, all of my besties. I’m surrounded by amazing women who support me everyday and constantly contribute to my happiness and my self-discovery. Sisterhood is vital!

Fav place in Wales?
The honest answer to this question is I’ve not been traveling around in Wales enough to pick a fav place. One of the things I’d like to change actually! In a general sense, I absolutely love Tenby, Pembrokeshire and Brecon.

Fav apps?
Oh I really rely on phone to function! So my everyday aps are Reminders, Notes, Asana, Slack, Buffer, Drive, Podcasts… The usual suspects which can sound boring but whenever I try and use apps for things like editing images or meditating, I don’t stick to it. Apps for me are to keep me organised and connected while I’m on the go!

What does the future hold?
I feel like I’ve done a fair amount for our creative community in Cardiff but I also know that I can’t keep doing that because I think the community needs new faces and fresh ideas. So next, I would love to focus on mentoring young women in the creative industries as well as growing my business.
