It's hard to articulate what it means to be a mentor….and even harder to feel like you truly are one. Maybe that's because Travis and I aren't so far apart in age, or maybe it's because this has never been a one-way relationship. We've shown up for each other more times than I can count.

When I first met Travis, he was 18…young, hungry, and already carrying that same energy he walks into every room with today. What's changed since then is everything that matters: he found his people, returned to the city that shaped him, and found Mia, a partner who grounds him in all the right ways.

Last night, Chris and I had the privilege of cooking alongside Travis and his team at Callie as they celebrated five years. Five years. In any industry that's meaningful…in the restaurant world, it's everything. And last night felt like exactly that. The food we cooked, the people in that room, the five years of memory and sacrifice and love that went into building something real, it was a one-of-one night. It will never happen again, and that's what made it sacred.

Wherever you go, whatever room you walk into you shape the outcome by how you show up for the journey. That's what I saw last night. I watched a friend, a mentee, a chef stand in the middle of everything he's worked for and feel it. And at the end of it all, what made us both the happiest was the simplest thing: standing side by side in a kitchen, serving others. It's all we've ever known. Service fills the bucket.

Happy Callie Day. Five years down, and so many more ahead. Love you all @travisswikard @miasimone @callierestaurant @christopheralannye @spoonandstable @demi.mpls @bellecourbakeryandbistro @bellecourbakeryandcafe @marabygk @themerchantroomnaples @fleurettesd
