Viaje al Fin del Mundo
Quite an improbable feeling send on my final go of the day. Had an interesting time figuring out my beta while being relatively constrained in the number of attempts I could have due to how taxing the crux was for my skin. Forced a lot of intentionality in how I explored options and required me to be quite deliberate with each send go. Ended up altering my beta for the first few moves to a new sequences on the go I sent.

Happy with how I trusted my intuition around beta, managed my attempts, and executed throughout the session. Been working a lot on improving my ability to do climbs within a session recently, glad to see some clear improvements in aspects of the projecting process which I have historically been quite bad at.

Managed to send the first time I stuck the foot walk despite immediately being kicked out of flow state when I hit the fourth move. Was able to fight my way through and not biff the mantle for once - maybe all the endurance training I never capitalized on for sport climbing didn’t go completely to waste.

The Reckoning Stand
First time completing an existing project since injuring my TFCC last spring! Haven’t had the chance to truly push myself on a climb in quite a long while - lots of lessons, both old and new, but also a glimpse into how much I’ve grown and what I now know I am capable of.

Spent years letting the climb’s reputation and mythos put me off from even attempting it, only to then struggle with placing too much pressure on myself to get it done quickly when I came back this year. Continue to be reminded again and again of the power that my expectations hold.

Glad I was able to enjoy an amazing day in a beautiful place after the emotions of the send had washed over me; hoping that I can remember that perspective as I return to my projects this fall.

A lot of change in recent months. The process of becoming a part of the @vw_gyms crew has given me a lot to reflect on and enjoy. Fresh creative spaces to experiment in, new people to ideate with, and the sandbox to implement many of the concepts I’ve been thinking through for a while.

I’ve been playing around a lot with 1) flow in boulders, especially at easier difficulties, and 2) challenging end positions as opposed to start positions—creating moves that feel easy to execute, but hard to stick. I think this white problem I set on our comp wall for the opening set of VW Seattle’s new facility, 4.5, takes the podium for my personal favorite of this category.

Thank you to @rocknsunshine for the help in finalizing this boulder, and for the mentorship over the last couple months.

The feeling when every aspect of a boulder you’ve set comes together to perfectly test your capabilities is honestly unparalleled.

I set the core rose move sequence of this boulder a couple weeks back at 60° on @boardworks_climbing’s 12x12 spray Tension board. I’m hoping to finalize and publish it when I return, but in the meantime I thought I’d try my luck at setting a similar version of it on our 45° wall over at @uplift_climbing. It can often be hard to transfer movement from the board to a commercial wall (or even vice versa), but I thought this turned out amazingly well. Preceded by a cruxy, explosive heel and shoulder sequence, and followed up by a dauntingly droppable finish, I’m really happy with this bloc!

Props to @brendan.perdue for slamming the FA.

It’s only up for another week, so go get it.
