“Tim and Kevin head to Perth to meet businesswoman, arts patron and National Living Treasure Janet Holmes à Court AC inside her extraordinary private gallery housed in a former paint factory.

Janet’s gallery is open to the public and her belief that art should be seen by everyone is central to the generosity she shows as an indefatigable champion of the arts in Australia.

This is an illuminating conversation about the intersection of art and architecture, the unique nature of Western Australian culture, and then some totally random stuff that is also going to make you happy.

Janet is fab. You will love her.”

This is one of my favourite buildings in Sydney, and I’m thrilled we’ve been able to secure it as a venue for Kevin McCloud and Tim Ross – Live in Interesting Places.

This brutalist beauty was designed by David Turner in 1968, opened in 1972, and took home the Sulman Award for Architecture in 1978.

After housing various tertiary institutions over the years, it became the Lindfield Learning Village — a K–12 school — in 2019.

Come see us in the building’s magnificent Greenhalgh Theatre.

Saturday February 14, 2pm
(Yes, it sounds like the perfect Valentine’s date to me.)

“In a semi-desperate attempt to find meaning in service station design, Tim and Kev head to Copenhagen to visit the famed filling station designed by Arne Jacobsen in the 1930s. A far-ranging conversation was recorded in front of the bowsers for your listening pleasure, and things may have gotten a little kooky.”

“What happens when you mix modernism, espionage, and a few Bauhaus legends in one London apartment block? You get the Isokon Building.
Tim and Kev head to North London to visit the legendary 1934 modernist icon designed by Wells Coates and developed by Jack and Molly Pritchard. Once home to Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer, Agatha Christie and a bunch of spies, Isokon was a radical experiment in minimalist living that has stood the test of time.”

We’re delighted to announce that Tim Ross (@modernister) is touring his new live show “The Australian Dream?” in Tasmania. Join us in Launceston and Hobart as Tim delves into our nation's complex relationship with home ownership.

The Hobart show is presented in partnership with Open House Hobart and the University of Tasmania.

“From the ‘burbs, to the bush, to the inner city, Australians are obsessed with the idea of home and the dream of home ownership. Ross casts his discerning eye across the archival treasures of our much–loved public libraries and uncovers the telling images that reveal a multi–decade story of Australian homes – how they’re sold to us, why we buy them, and how we make them our own. Tim explores the reasons why home ownership is such an all – consuming distraction among Australians and uncovers some of the unique and special ways we have built in this place.”

To secure your ticket, follow the link in our bio.

Tour Dates:
Launceston:
Thursday 6 November, University of Tasmania – The Workshop Building.

Hobart:
Friday 7 November, University of Tasmania, Medical Science Precinct.

What a Ripper!

I’m so thrilled, as I know Des would be too, to be included in Tim’s latest book.

How delighted I felt to be sitting here in the exact same spot where these stamps came to life back in the 70s. We were honoured to have both been commissioned to design and illustrate them and were so proud of the reception they received at the time.

And to now be included amongst such great Australian design and innovation, with the added bonus of Tim’s unique wit and humour is such an unexpected surprise. So a huge thank you to Tim @modernister I hope it’s equally loved by many!
