For two years, one month and 28 days, she has been one of my little lights.

SKY is my longest stay foster dog in 15 years of fostering more than 160 of these delightful creatures we are privileged to walk with. Her entire world is silent, but her presence is louder than almost every dog I’ve worked with. Her environment is specific - she needs space to roam, and #forcefree humans who understand dogs deserve agency and autonomy. She’s turned my life inside out, has equally pulled me down and lifted me up, made the losses of Charlotte and Joey more painful than they had to be (not her fault, just the time she required as they were dying) but still, I am, and always will be, the lucky one. 🍀

Jasmyne has made it clear, so no need to ask, but if she would allow it then SKY would be home. She won’t and I would never not honor her and force a situation that would be unfair to all three of us. It will gut me within inches of my soul, but the most fair thing to SKY is to keep looking for her home. She deserves more than scraps of me.

SKY deserves humans who will battle the gods for her, because I will. 🤍

KANE needs a temp foster for a few nights I am traveling, and/or a longer term foster who can commit to two months. A foster-to-adopt situation is also ideal.

KANE is good with dogs. Cats are too interesting for him though.

KANE came from a home with four children but due to the attention his caregiver(s) will need to provide him, and his need for a calmer home, we are not able to place him in a home with children at this point.

We provide all training support, supplies, ongoing virtual consults with our veterinary behaviorist and as much hand holding as needed. KANE is very much an adoptable dog but needs a savvy home who understands agency, autonomy, consent and what #forcefreetraining is.

See him, then share him.

I sent this video to KANE’s temp foster @gracebaley who I took over from today. I never intended to post this - it’s definitely not “Instagram worthy.” But, after I sent it to her I realized it captured something more ‘worthy’ than most of what I’ve seen on my feed lately.

I’ve been having so much anxiety over how I will juggle three dogs who need to be separated - we had no takers to step in, as some of his behaviors, while mild, have undetermined triggers we need to understand in order to determine what environments/homes will set him up for success. Here just half a day, KANE is the perfect reminder of why a comprehensive care model in animal welfare, advocacy and rescue is vital. This must encompass the basics of enrichment, and understanding each dog is an individual and cannot be subject to a cookie cutter approach, as well as complete veterinary care (which may need to include pain trials/evaluations), behavior evaluation/understanding and #positivereinforcementdogtraining.

Tonight, in my decidedly not chic but definitely shabby kitchen, this little goblin reminded me why I CAN do this until we find his final stop. KANE has been through so much, which I will detail tomorrow in a dedicated post, but for tonight, please crush on this little soul, and be reminded that we absolutely, unequivocally, one-hundred-percent-not-in-one- million lifetimes, do not deserve dogs.
