Very selectively. 🍷

We explored Virginia’s burgeoning wine country and found breathtaking vistas, gorgeous estates, and vineyards that seemed tailor-made for weddings and events. If you’re looking for a romantic setting to exchange vows, the choices are spectacular.

But if you’re a serious wine lover, the view is only the beginning. Beautiful vineyards don’t necessarily translate into compelling wines, and too often we found ourselves admiring the landscape more than what was in the glass.

Then, at Michael Shaps, the conversation changed.

Here was a winemaker treating Virginia’s potential not as a marketing idea, but as a serious viticultural challenge.

With deep ties to Burgundy and a sensibility grounded in its traditions, Shaps brings precision, restraint, and a clear sense of place to his wines. He isn’t trying to make Chardonnay that simply tastes rich or impressive; he’s aiming for tension, texture, and longevity.

His Chardonnay stood out immediately. It carried the brightness and mineral drive you want in a serious white wine, but it also had a layered, almost creamy depth—subtle oak, ripe fruit, and a long, savory finish that kept unfolding after each sip. The wine felt polished without being overworked, generous without becoming heavy. It brought to mind the ambition and character of great white Burgundy, especially Meursault, where Shaps also owns a Chateau and makes highly regarded wines.

That’s not a comparison to make lightly. But this was the kind of Chardonnay that made us stop, take another sip, and reconsider what Virginia could do. It had the structure to command attention, the balance to invite another glass, and enough personality to linger in memory long after the tasting ended.

Virginia has plenty of places to fall in love. We found a few wines worth falling in love with, too.

The views may steal your heart. The wine still has to earn it. 🍷

Today it begins, from Friday through Sunday the 11th, Division Road is hosting our Fall-Winter 2026 Residency with Fortela, Freenote Cloth, Original Madras Trading Company, and collaborators on The Fields for this annual craft, community, and customization focused fest.⁠

To focus all attention on the Residency, Division Road will not have our regular Friday release. Over the weekend, there will be a pause to our typically prompt online service standards. ⁠
⁠
Order fulfillment will continue per schedule, and emails will be monitored and addressed within 24 hours. Monday is a holiday, and Division Road will be closed. Normal operations will resume on Tuesday, the 13th.⁠

We're only a few days away from another fantastic Residency event. We have some updates for attendees and final considerations for any fence-sitters. ⁠

Freenote Cloth, Original Madras Trading Company, and Fortela will be here in the flesh for custom Made-to-Order, presenting unreleased collaborations and limited-edition curations you can't access anywhere else. Made-to-Order and Fortela appointments are secured with a deposit and will be served on schedule, and you have carte blanche to design and secure as many pieces as you wish.⁠

Saturday is almost fully booked, and there is wide availability on Sunday for appointments for all resident brands. Those without an appointment will have to slide in if space allows.⁠
⁠
A full barbeque cookout by Autumn Olive Farms, tastings by Michael Shaps and Silver Hand Meadery, and other small bites and refreshments will be complimentary for our patrons and their guests.⁠

This year, we're focusing on The Fields. We have a full schedule of activities related to the rewilding of the land and high-quality, taste-centric regional provisions. Please see the schedule below and the Calendar of Events page.⁠

Another morning, another brunch!

And this time, we totaly made it sparkling!

Closing out our press trip organized by the Charlottesville Tourism Board and Monticello Wine Trail at the Sparkling Brunch Showcase at Hazy Mountain Vineyards on Sunday, June 28th was pure magic.

We enjoyed a relaxed, celebratory morning filled with chef-driven brunch stations, endless bubbles, and sweeping mountain views that took my breath away.

The food was simply spectacular, making it a bright, unforgettable finish to an incredible week exploring Virginia wine country.

Participating wineries included Hazy Mountain Vineyards, King Family Vineyards, Eastwood Farm and Winery, Trump Winery, Afton Mountain Vineyards, Stinson Vineyards, Hardware Hills Vineyard, Veritas Vineyards, Michael Shaps Wineworks, and Flying Fox Vineyard.

We have something BIG to toast to today.🥂 We’ve been named a 2026 Steward of Virginia Wine for the second year in a row. We’re proud. We’re grateful. And we’re especially happy that this recognition comes on the first day of Virginia Wine Month.

#Virginiawine is part of Beauty all year long. We pour it by the glass, feature it in Bellezza Wine Club, teach with it in Grape School, build tastings around it and share the people and stories behind the bottles on “When You Just Want a Glass of Wine.”

Over the past year, that has meant everything from tasting with Luca Paschina and Michael Shaps to pouring Slater Run, Glen Manor and Commonwealth Crush, talking Virginia wine on TV and even bringing Barboursville Octagon into a room full of snowboarders. Because good wine should show up in interesting places. 🙂

Thank you to everyone who comes into Beauty, buys a bottle, joins us for a class or tasting, listens to the podcast, shares a post and keeps asking us what they should try next. And thank you to the Virginia winemakers and wine community who continue to trust us with your wines and your stories. Now we get to celebrate.
