Cardi Gallery Milan is pleased to present a special presentation of new work by Bosco Sodi, created for the 10th edition of Biennale Gherdëina, (Future) Paradise Gardens, curated by Samuel Leuenberger.
Comprising thirty-two paintings commissioned by the Biennale, the work was conceived in dialogue with the unique landscape of the Dolomites, and the exhibition's reflection on nature, coexistence, and collective futures.
Sodi's works are shaped by the choice to embrace the accidental, that moment of non-control, while working in harmony with the natural elements. He rejects the use of tools and does not delegate the production of his pieces, working instead in an intensely direct, gestural, and performative manner.
Their surfaces, a vivid, saturated red, carry a single condensed gesture. Built up through thick layers of pigment and raw material, the surfaces crack as they dry, forming crevices that recall arid landscapes, scorched earth, or mineral formations. These marks are not imposed, but emerge through the tension between the artist's action and the material's own behaviour.

The joyous result of a sustained community effort, Eternal Flame for Scott Burton is both a memorial and, well, a dance platform. This seems entirely appropriate, in that Burton conceived of furniture as a kind of pedestal and his own sculptures as pedestals for people. This humble, almost invisible work elevates the everyday into an endless performance, inviting contact and human touch. We are the art.

Transforming and restoring Burton’s materials was a collective act of love that reciprocates the generosity of this enigmatic artist. It has been a great privilege to work with an incredible community of people who care deeply about the legacy of this work and believe in the liberatory potential of public art. To celebrate this work at the @nycaidsmemorial was particularly poignant, defiant, and energizing. Public art is essentially (socialist) democratic, useful and ultimately fun. Now it belongs to the great City of New York, to all of us.
